Thread: Hrmh.. Few TK Questions

2 things i have on my mind. first being the spec and 2nd being general questions about how TK works..

first..
I'm completly sick of creature handler and it's bugs, and just the fact how many CH there are, and i always wanted to be a TKM but i was kind of afraid that it might be too easy to kite but i don't care about that anymore, maybe i'll just suck, so be it.

So anyways, focused 100% on PvP (well i do PvE too but i can manage in PvE somehow and don't want my spec to be around PvE) what would be a good profession(s) to take along TKM? I defenetly want to master TK though. And preferably 4-0-4-0 medic for those 2000+ heals (nice when buffed). Aaaand 4-0-0-0 Scout too. Can't stand walkign up hills slow..

So i'm wondering.. I can get
Master Rifleman+TKM+medic+scout.. or..
TKM+0-0-2-2 pistleer+0-0-4-0 smuggler+medic+scout

Now, rifleman has that nice mind bleed/mind shot, however the long range needed and i'd prorbably be trying to move up close i don't think the accuracy would be very good..

On the other hand, smuggler has quite good pistol skills but no good targeted HAM attack, just randoms.. however it'd probably be better to move up close with a pistol and still doing damage..

(Not that i'm doctor buffed 90% of the time i PvP if that matters)

Also, some general questions regarding TK:
I see alot of skills refer to bonus to XXX while UNARMED. Is using vibroknucklers regarded as being unarmed? Or will i have to lower my damage(assuming not using VK's lowers your damage that is) to get the benefit of these skill mods?

Also, do you use TWO VK's? I see alot of people say "my pair of VK's is xxx".. As if they are using two. are you in fact dual wielding two VK's(as in two in your backpack).

How effective is the unarmed thoughness? How much does it boost your resistances? If i read teh skill description right it only boosts kinetic resistance, how is it calculated? Is it added to your current armro resist or is it added as a layer on top or below the armor? I will be getting a full set of 80-89% resist composite armor tomorrow, i think unarmed thougness+that will be quite scary. .(once they fix the armor hole bug(according to armorsmith TL next big publish will fix it, already fixed internally)

Thanks

Maybe I can give you my outlook on the decisions you are facing. TKM, Medic, and Scout are great. I was about to drop Scout to do TKM, surrended one level of Explore, and nearly incapped running up a small hill. Joking, of course, but I can understand your desire to handle the terrain, especially if you are with a group of CH, BH, or Rangers. Medic is valuable, even at novice, since it will keep you alive longer, as well as help your team. I am a Master Smuggler, and even though there are no targeted HAM attacks, the skills you get from the Dirty Fighting tree are great. Add in some Pistoleer and you will have your ranged attacks and kiting problem solved. I really can't offer advice on rifles since early on in the game I never liked them due to the fact I had to be far away to hit, when mobs come in close for kinetic attacks, and you run slower holding a rifle. However in a PvP setting, rifle from a distance might be a good idea, then switch to TKM if they attack close. Imagine their surprise thinking they can crowd you, while you hit KD2, Unarmed Hit 3. The last thing they will see is that red trace!

Being Doctor buffed makes a big difference, along with some Muon Gold for your mind in PvP. It really depends on who you are facing and what skills they have to match yours.

With or without vibroknucklers, both are considered unarmed, so all bonuses apply. You cannot use more than one VK at a time. People refer to them as a set, but they are in fact one item.

I don't know specifics on Unarmed Toughness, but I have noticed it helps against most forms of attack, short of poison, disease, or fire.

Hope this helps you, and good luck!

Personally, Pistol is my choice for a closing and kitingweapon, and if you get a Krayt Pistol you'll do pretty well with damage. For me the choice for Pistol is based on these factors:

1. TK is my primary combat mode so I'm usually within 20m of an opponent during combat closing with pistol, or pulling pistol if an opponent gets distance.

2. Holding any ranged weapon while being attacked by melee multiplies damage, but pistol has the smallest multiplier vs. melee.

3. Pistol has a knockdown special which is on a different timer than TK knockdown.

4. In PvP people kind of expect Pistoleers to try to get close, so you can usually catch people flat-footed when you get right on them and open up a can of TK hoopa on em.

I had considered rifle (and used to use carbine) for the potential of sniping long range, which sounds like fun to me, but I couldn't see closing with a rifle and taking the major melee damage while having the rifle equipped (I think the damage multiplier for melee against rifle is 2x, but this may have changed recently).

Hope that helps.
