Thread: I'm a commando... was thinking about getting the meditation line... but...
I must admit when I got unarmed 1-4 it was a pain in the ass... terrible DPS and high risk leveling....
Well as a Master Ch, and 0/0/4/0 commando I decided I could pick up the meditation line of TK.. Until I started leveling.. I finally got the unarmed xp for novice TK (which sucked) but once I got that vibroknuckler cert and unarmed hit 2 I suddenly became able to actually fight... and it started getting fun.
So that had me thinking... thinking about how I've mastered pistoleer, rifleman, and a line of commando... but they were all basically the same.
And I decided I'm going to be a TK master....
So now I ask you, being that I have novice medic, CH skills, and am keeping pistol 4 for now to help with bleeds, which boxes should I level first? I know others have asked this here, but I think the answer shouldnt' be cut and dry, but depend more on the persons skills they allready have.
Thanks,
Teeb (soon to be Master TK in a while..lol )
You really think I should get knockdown before dizzy? Is knockdown still on that 30 second timer?
I was thinking get dizzy first, then knockdown... then up to powerboost...then finish power.. then finish balance, then finish med... /shrug guess it doesn't really matter.. Thanks for the help though..
BTW I allready have the first 3 boxes of the one that uses combat xp... had alot of it stored.
You know what? With all the good stuff in our trees now, the order you get the trees in just isn't as imporntant anymore.
Powerboost = VERY COOL self buff
KD+ dizzy = great PVE and PVP tactic
toughness and speed/accuracy are both desirable
healing your own wounds is fantastic
Basically there just isn'ta way you could go wrong anymore. People may be stubborn and so you have to do it in X, Y, Z order, but I say just do what you want and have fun. TKA is loads of fun!

First get KD (Balance I) then get Power I-IV then get the rest of Balance then get Meditation. Get Precision as it comes with Combat Exp. That's how I did it. Worked for me. Now, you may want to go through Meditation before Balance considering the changes they made to Power Boost. Personal preference. Either way is pretty solid.

Only a couple problems, they reset the timer on knockdown to 30 sec. Knockdown doesn't last more than a second or two in PvE. I have never...ever had dizzy effect any sort of creature (it seems to work against NPCs and in PvP, now).
Knockdown does work, just not as well as it's supposed to. Does anyone remember how it was working after the publish before they "fixed" the bug with some mobs staying down indefinitely? I personally never had a mob stay down indefinitely during that period. They stayed down for about 10 to 20 seconds for me...so they would get back up, if I let them. You can still get a shot or two in with knockdown, currently, so it is worthwhile especially considering the mods you get with it.
I'm still working on getting the Power Tech line first. I can't wait until I can hit fast and hard enough to put my VKs on the shelf until I run across something I need armor piercing to kill.
With the improvements to the Meditation line, I'm not sure whether I want to alternate between Balance and Meditate or finish up either branch first. I guess it largely depends on whether they re-fix knockdown and dizzy. That wound healing is awfully tempting, though.

I'm not sure why patience is an issue. I blitz through Unarmed xp like a hot knife through butter. It's really VERY easy to advance through the TK profession quickly, not frustrating at all imho.
As for advancement it all depends on what you want to do.....
Precision will come naturally so that is outta the equation.
Power=more damage=more unarmed xp. Do you want to power through TK to get to master? Get power 4 first and foremost.
Balance=more defense and nifty moves=better tanking and more overall effectiveness in both PvP and PvE. If you plan to get the most of the class throughout the leveling experience and don't plan on powering through the class then I would split time between the 2. Last night I got power 4 over Balance 3 simply because the hour or so between balance 3 ding and power 4 ding didnt find me a trainer. I woudlo have balanced them pretty evenly as I am a primary tank for our group.
Meditation=less down time and nifty (though arguably effective) specials. Do you have Scout and/or Medic? Do you regularly group with either one? My regular comabt partner is a master medic working on doctor so the wound healing and condition removal is not important to me. Power Boost and Force of Will, before lately were considerd pretty worthless so the Meditation tree was largely left til last by many of the non-RP types. Whether it is a viable substitute for a combat oriented box is up to the user. Will you use it?
This was all gathered from my own experience. I hope it helps.
