Does Melee toughness help in kinetic MOB damage or does it only work with NPCs and PCs using melee weapons?

no such thing as "melee toughness" there is Melee Defense and Unarmed Toughness.

To my meager understanding Melee Defense makes you harder to hit (some kind of their accuracy vs your defense {melee for melee attacks, ranged for ranged attacks})

and Unarmed Toughness gives 1% damage reduction per point of melee damage (which is kenetic)

Please keep in mind that different MOB's do different things (some thugs shoot some hit you with axes) and so the damage will be accepted as different types

yes, unarmed toughness is what I meant, thanks for the answers.
I do mostly MOB hunting for hide and bone so this should prove very handy.
