Thread: Anyone else think that TKM Bare hands should be AP1?

Forgive me if this has been brought up before, I have only recently joined the profession. I would think that at the Master level, the need for a weapon (Vibro Knucklers) would no longer be necessary to deal large amounts of Kinetic Energy (damage) to persons wearing armor.

I have seen men and women destroying thick wood, concrete, andheard of some extreme cases where bones were broken from strikes to individuals using Kevlar armor.

In PvE, many creatures we are fighting have Light and Medium armor. Many of us have chosen not to wear any.

In PvP, many of our opponents have available to them Light Armor that can stop 80% of 75% of our Vibro Knuckler damage. The HAM costs from VKs in both of these instances do not justify their use most of the time.

If I'm being a clueless noob, just let me know.

Well, I do not know if I agree with you.

In pve i get more xp than my friends, because I do a LOT of damage without knucklers. In pvp I rather not use knucklers. If my knockdown2 sticks they are dead with or without knucklers.

Every other melee profession has to live with these ham costs ALL THE TIME. You have the choice of basically removing most of your ham costs for lower damage and ap0 sowhy are you complaining about?

Then what you heardcame fromsomeone who doesn't understand how Kevlar works. You seem to be such a person as well.

Breaking bones through Kevlar is far less impressive than destroying thick wood or concrete. Kevlar is a lightweight fabric that is primarily used in gloves that protect wearers from heat and cuts. Body armor made from Kevlar will protect against some firearms (Kevlar vests are bullet resistant, not bulletproof), but you can still get some nice bruises from the impact of the protectiles. A Kevlar vest won't do much at all to protect a wearer from the kinetic energy of a baseball bat or the fist of a trained uarmed fighter.

In PvP this isn't really important. As it stands now, if you can get to them- they're dead, regardless of armor ratings or piercing. In PvE there's something to look at, because a creature with AR2 (let alone 3)takes a loooong time to bring down solo. This isn't an issue for TKAs only though. Most classes have this issue. Some profs handle this by stackingDoTs that ignore the armor which I hope is a bug. You can't do this.. but at least you can sit down and heal your own wounds in a minute or two with no supply costs :-)

Anyways, I think the real problem is the challenge level system not taking armor into account so you get missions where the payout isn't appropriate for the difficulty due to armor ratings. I can go to Dant and get 15k CL40-something voritor tracker (AR2)missions that take20 minutes a pop or go to Dath and get 20k CL60-something kamurith (AR0)missions that take2 minutes if I take my time.

As it stands now, keep the mob intimidated, use warcry/knockdown as often as possible, and otherwise ride it out with knucklers and no specials. I don't think bare hands should be AP1.

Unless your name is Wolverine, and you have this shady past which involved some sort of medical process to fuse "metal" to your bones... then maybe AP1 is appropriate without vk's

If we got AP1 on our fists, we'd lose a lot of our damage mods. I'm happy with it the way it is.

I think the current AR/AP system will be changed when the combat rebalance is implemented. If you remember the big patch SNAFU earlier this month, you'll remember a change to AR/AP. This change was revoked but the effect of the change was that AR0 and AP0 were much, much less disadvantaged vs. higher AP/AR's. My Fencer toon was happy for a few days, as we get some of the crappiest AP weapons .

but unarmedhit1 is called 'Steel Hands'! MY HANDS ARE STEEL.

really... I wish we had more damage types and APs available to us, but that would be silly.

if you want to talk about melee dmg vs kevlar, just think of it as kevlar: AP1, special protectionballistic 50%, vulnerability impact... whatever helps you. kevlar works by spreading point impact (the bullet) over a larger area. a baseball bat works find on the stuff... only slight protection from the overall bulk and padding.

I'm quite happy to have the VK's as an option. If you want to get crazy, ask for 'electric gloves' or somesuch. or 'elemental attacks', like Fire Fist or Cold ... um. I don't think it'll let me say that. y'know, like I was fightin in the bar the other day and cold 'word here'ed the guy (meaning I knocked 'im out). rhymes with Clock.

I don't see this happening.

what I DO think is a valid desire is DT_ stun. stun damage isn't really explained... it's either tangle-y (pistol) or goofy-sounding-blue-beam-y (rifle), but I wonder if it would be possible to get a 'stun' attack that doesn't cause (or perhaps, ALSO causes) the 'stunned' status condition, but rather causes DT_stun unarmed.

I'd rather we have new VK's with different types of attacks morethan have our bare hands AR1. Maybe not evenmany different types, but at least another besides kinetic...
