Thread: armor -- an ethical dilema

From reading the forum it looks like folks are about 50-50 on weather to even use armor or not, so I guess this quesion is only directed at about half of you.

It seems to be common practice to unequip your knucklers when doing specials, to save on HAM costs. This seems to be a fairly realistic action. It is not that hard to imagine a fighter using his weapon one second and not using it the next. I have a swordsman who used to be a pikeman. I missed the stun when I lost it, so I picked up enough unarmed to get stun back. Now when I start a fight, I stun with my bare hands, and then draw out my sword to finish the fight. We don't have visible scabards but it still seems realistic to me.

Now on to my TKA. For the same reason that we unequip the knucklers for specials, it would also seem logical to unequip armor. In fact you can set it up so that the same button you press to pick up or drop your weapon will do your armor as well. The thing is, how realistic is that? You walk up to a mob, and punch him a couple of times to defuff him, then you stop and put on a 9 piece set of armor?

I know the simple answer is, if it bothers me, don't do it, and if I do it, then it must not bother me that much. I just thought it would be interesting to hear other people's ideas on the subject.

Thanks for listening.

If you want realistic, go join the SCA (or is it SCCA). This is a game, If we want it to be realistic, everytime you login you would have to go pee, don't forget to shower. Brush those teeth.

Of you just took some spice, well Mr Drug user. You'll feel burnt out for a couple days.

You answered your own question.

BTW - I wear armor sometimes when I face really hard situations and, yes I take it off to do heals and stateheals. I "justify" this because why should sticking astim into the **edit** of my armor to heal myself be any more taxing on me than if I wasn't wearing any armor? It shouldn't, so I goaround it with macros.

honestly I was against the use of armor for a long time due to the increased
HAM costs, but after buying a set of composite I must say I can kill things
and do things that I couldnt even consider doing before.

NPCs used to terrify me, now they are mere speedbumps

my 2 cents

You know, this game has soooo many unrealistc things in it,that armor macros just don't bother me at all. Think of it, you can put your house in your pocket, along all your funriture. You can store multiple ravenous tortons in what ammounts to a palm pilot. You can shoot through hills. You can't jump (not really anyway).

Basically, my opinion is that if it's beneficial, and not some weird exploit, then go for it.

I also always carry a full set of composite (have to be buffed to wear it). But I hardly ever use it.

Main time I use it is to get close enough to ranged users, but personally I have found with your ham and action stats all buffed, the damage you take is not even noticable.

The main part of armour you need is the helmet, problem is it kills your secondary mind stats, so it is all a question of what works best for you. It has plus and negative sides, depends on which works best for you.

If I use the armour, I use it to get close, then usually keep it on till mind hits about 50% then remove it. If I didnt wearing the armoyur would just kill mind to much. I used to use muon gold when wearing the armour to boost the mind pool so I could keep the armour on, but since the last update patch, muon gold seems bugged, it does not boost the secondary stats anymore, but does remove the value on the downer, so usually incaps you.

House in your pocket? Thought you were just happy to get an answer on the force of will thing.

I was not really complaining about anything guys. It just struck me as funny, and I had never seen it discussed. Yes, the non realistic aspects of the game are countless, but then so was it in the movies, so what else is new. :>

Just have fun all.

i'm too lazy to use a macro, let alone buy armor and MAKE a macro!

it's silly, though not unethical, to have to use such methods to work around what seems like bad game design. and it IS bad game design: either you have trade-offs or you don't. you shouldn't be able to bypass the negative aspects of armor with a single keystroke.

if it feels wrong because it's not roleplayable (like removing weapons for special moves), work on your roleplaying!

I was against armor for a long, long time. Now I wear advanced composit. I goto great Lengths to get Hamreduced/ham sliced composit. (I have two full suits and many extra peices becauseof slices that go the wrong way)

I dont wear my armor all the time. But if Im facing an opponent I respect enough to wear my armor, Im going to be MUCH less frivelous with my specials(Normally Im a Special spammer) and im NOT going to take my armor off (And risk a 800-2 or 3k hit while nekid) just so I can blind/stun/kd/whatevermy opponent. If your not worried about getting hit for that much. loose the armor.

Wearing armor an ethicalquestion? Not! The question is how can I avoid being incapped and stay alive to fight another day.

I use armor depending on ghe mob that I am fighting. A large konga base? Definately. But unless there is alot of ranged weapon fire, I use just ubese jacket and pants. It has low HAM costs, good resists and is relatively cheap.

I also do not unequip VKs when doing specials. I typically do 3 moves, KD, Dizzy and hit2 then auto attack.I found that the damage done to me by VKs is much less thanthe damageI take in the fight by not using them. In some cases, creatureresists are high enough (>50% kinetic) that VKs are a must.

I have a full set of very good Ubese, as well as a full set of Composite that I think it more thengood.. (47% enc slices on almost all of the composite)

but unless I can get a full set of buffs I never use it because armor+VK's+specials = death for me..

I have this great set of pink hotpants that, (and I am not kidding), I looted off a meatlump. I wear them most often when I am fighting in PvP. I think it prolly p-o's people to get whipped by an emerald green 7 foot Trandoshan wearing hot pink tighties.

I wear adv. ubese armour with a composite helm, works wonders for high end mobs. I love when the combat screen goes creature hit you for XXX damages, your ubese jacket took YYY damage.
