For those in law enforcement, also consider Pressure Point Control Techniques (PPCT). It's a quick and dirty course covering 8-36 pressure points that are used in submission of an aggressor. This can be covered in basic hand-to-hand or can incorporate intermediate weapons (PR-24, ASP, etc.).

Keep in mind that this will not adequately prepare you fighting an experienced fighter, but is a great addition to your arsenal.

I've studied martial arts since i was 4, and always moved from one to the other, enjoying the different aspects of them. The ones i truly progressed in where Karate (black belt) and tae kwon do (red belt) the others a tried for approximately a year or so but never graded.

Tai Chi, currently learning Yang long-form first section, for the second time. After the baby I had to choose between Tai Chi and Iaido. Tai Chi won because it's better for overall health. I have a good teacher who teaches both the martial and the chi aspects of the art.

Shin Shin Sekiguichi Ryu Iaido (shodan) and a little Toyama Iaido at the same time. Gave it up when I got pregnant and quit my stressful job. I wasn't feeling well and had less money for classes. It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed traveling and meeting everyone. I may pick it up again later.

Aikido, briefly in college. Unfortunately my sensei moved and I haven't found another teacher that I like as well. Think I got spoiled.

Highjack1: I originally started this game as a BE/CH/Pistoleer. Took a break and played a TK on a different server and had so much fun I finally got up the nerve to drop BE and later CH. The TK's in game fight nothing like my own style, since I prefer internal arts, though meditation is a nice addition. Wish I could curea coldorheal thesore spot in my knee where the dog rammed into itsimply by sitting quietly for a few minutes. Though my sifu tells me that if I practice regularly I'll be less likely tocatch a coldin the first place. biwan:

Highjack2: Dang, forgot what highjack 2 was....thank goodness for the edit button. I'll be back.

Ah, ok, why do I study? Well it's nice to think you will be prepared if something bad happens. Though I'm smart enough to hope that the person who decides to mess with me hasn't had much, if any, training. So really I study because it's fun, and it's good for me. It's officially Mommy out-of-the-house time. And learning to center and bring energy into the tan tien is a valuable skill for keeping cool when the day gets long and the kid is screaming. Also, learning to balance is really helpful for stepping over the kid gates without tripping and wiping out on the floor.

I started Tae Kwon Do when i was about 14. Did that for a aobut 2yrs. reached 2nd degree blue belt. I like that fact that it was a "flashy" art. Loved doing all the arial kicks. Messed around with Shottakon a little by picking up pointers from friedns i used to live with. When I went into the Army and changed jobs to mililtary police i learned alot of Hapkido and Akido. (Good to know when your primary job is prisoner transport and detention. i.e. Correction Officer) Now I started at a dojo up the road from my house. Something they call TAMA (Total Approach to Martial Arts. Little mix of TaeKwonDo, Jiu-jitsu, judo, kenpo, and grappling) I like this school because it teaches you more practicle uses. They don't really focus on Katas as much other schools do. I mean face it. If you get into a confrontation you won't really wanna think what comes after the front kick. They work ALOT on hand eye coordination and reflexes.

Hey Himthesecond, i was looking throught the thread and saw yours saying that u were too young to study Bushido. Bushido isn't a martial art, rather a phylosophy. It means "Way of the Warrior". I think you meant something else, but wasn't sure. I'm currently learning Bushido while I'm learning Iaido and Kendo. Just an FYI.

The Martial Styles I study are thus;

Kempo, Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling ( I know not a Martial Art ), Iaido, and Kendo. Started my instruction at the age of 10 and been studying since. You can never know enough of any art there is always more to learn.

Hi,

Geez you all are freaking scary. You all will slap me silly or spread me on the mat in no time. Only art I practice is Playing-Chicken. Yep people tells me I am what I eat and chickens are my favorite. (I do know many ways to cook 'em. Really.)

I tried a little bit of few but only learned to hit ... and RUN! (or just RUN!) ...

Yeah, I am ...
