Whats wrong with being kited?
i mean everyone getskited from time to time
wouldent melee be to powerfull in pvp if u had some ability to slow your target down?
i mean when first your in melee range your target will be as good as dead right?
......
I agree with you partially... No kiting isn't really all that bad... I remember Han running down a hall screaming while kiting Stormtroopers,,, well wait I guess that was reverse kiting, but if he wasn't kiting then the stormtroopers were..
Anyways... I don't mind being kited a bit, but when I do get into range we still miss an awful lot, that is what most folks are upset about. If and when we get them in range they should be toast if we have any HAM left at all. I fully don't expect to charge blaster shots from 50 meters away somehow get close to him and win the fight unless he's /AFK. But watch out if I do get close!
A combination of what holo plans and either a /stick command or slightly increased range is the key there I think. Increased range meaning 5meters so we don't miss, like they just (forgot to)put in the last patch??
If they were to implement a snare type special move we could use, then it should only work within 5 meters and only for 5 seconds or so. We need to be able to damage IF we get close which TKA can without a doubt handle.
Sorry for the repetition.

Yeti4U, you're retarded.
Since when should it be "fair" to bring fists into a gun battle? If I can run away from you to keep you from punching me in the melon - all the while blasting you with laser beams. Feh, you can bet your cookies I'm going to do that. Take your Bruce Lee dreams elsewhere, and kung-fu kick paralope nests.
Hi,
I play a low lvl TKA. Now that doesn't earn me much respect, but I played a monk for 4+yrs in EQ, still no respect, ok, well I have a black belt inShotokan Karate. That help?
Now I have played games as a martial artist since the option was available in Rolemaster
One thing in the 'real world' and every game I have played that I know for absolute truth. Unless you are close to your target when he is armed with a gun that he knows how to use, you will lose. There is no other option, sure luck, he might jam, you may just guess an instant before he fires and move the right way, but with bullets or in this game lasers moving soooo much faster than a very fast thing you can not evade.
What wouldI do if I was to fight someone with a gun? Well in the real world I would get a better gun, with games it seems Martial Artists are allowed 'martial' weapons. But generally if you don't have a gun, can't get out of the way then throw something at them.
Now this game gives us TKA the option to lunge 15m, long jump anyone? Hell thats an olympic record. So you can close, and once in melee range only a very very lucky pistoleer or BH with eyeshot is going to win. Yes I know this to be true, my main is a BH.
The solution to your problems? Well you have enough points to master another profession, fed up of being kited? Go carbine/rifleman/pistoleer, whatever, suppliment your skills rather than trying to change a truism.
Many people have used it before and 'll use it now, if you plan on winning, 'don't take a knife to a gun fight' and most definately not a fist.
More damage for melee, all it will do is mean if they catch you they will definately win rather than should. It won't and shouldn't change the game.
Makoko Takamoto
This is just sad Holocron.
The #1 glaring problem with melee is we can't hit what is running away and we cannot stop them long enough to hit.
I was all for the 30 second timer. Because I was tired of getting spam'd by KD at range .. but now it's actually worse for melee. Adding more defense or adding more damage won't do squat for us in PvP.
As both a Teras Kasi Master and a Master Brawler I am pretty much useless in PvP. Oh I can beat on an AT-ST until it targets and one shots me, but that is not my idea of fun. I have no chance against ranged users even at point blank, all they have to do is run and they win.
I'm getting to the point where canceling is on my mind. I enjoy the game, but I'm useless in what I want the most, PvP. Everytime I PvP now I get a little bit angrier because I can't compete against someone running from me. I spend all my time running around like a fool getting 'targe out of range' messages, and while doing so I get bled andshot to hell.
A few things that NEED to happen to make melee useful in PvP:
- We need to be able to hit while moving, if this means increasing our range to 10-15m, then do it!
- Put melee KD's on a seperate timer and a shorter one.Our KDs should last longer as well. This could potentially answer the hitting while moving if done right. Currently, In order for us to be affective AT ALL, we need a stationary target. Period. The only way we can have a stationary target is if we KD/Dizzy. Everytime I go to KD someone their timer is already in affect because a ranged user used it already and I never hit.
- Add a lunge3 that dizzy's or add a dizzy to lunge2. If we can dizzy a running target they may fall down and we may actually hit them.
- /stick
BTW, Warcry appears to be on a timer with something, further crippling our capabilities.
I'm going to reiterate this again in the hopes that some dev will get it...
*Fix our inability to hit a running target when we're in range*
I think the absolute best example of this happening is when we're fighting a mob and it starts running at low health, at which point we have to run AHEAD of the monster, stop, and hit him as he walks by. In the meantime, we get the "target is out of range" message even when the mob is STILL HITTING US. I dunno, call me crazy, but if something can hit me in melee doesn't that mean I should be able to hit it back? The pvp scenario makes it so much worse because we can't "run ahead" of a player, stop, and hit them as they run by. So one of two things needs to happen before tka is going to be anywhere near fixed...
1) Give us a /stick command to use when we reach melee range. Have it check the TKA's range to target, and if it's within punching distance, lock on to the target, at which point the TKA should stick to the playeras he doeswith /follow, but with the added bonus that we are automatically within melee range (which is EXACTLY as it should be). The only way to cancel this should be if we move away or if the target burst runs.
or
2) Give us a "break leg" ability of some kind that has the effect of snaring the target, slowing them to a crawl similar to that of a fleeing mob. I would prefer a /stick command because it's more fair to us, but we're kind of desperate here so will take whatever we can get. (which is really pathetic btw...that we should have to beg to be allowed to do something like hitting things that are within range)
We are not asking to be made into pvp gods, we aren't asking for a 15m range on all our attacks, we aren't asking for psycho damage and unstoppable defense...we are asking to be able to HIT things when we are in range. It just boggles my mind that this is such an outlandish request and that people have a problem with this. There are players running around spamming eye shot, wiping out entire groups of players with sick mind damage (that's a whole other can of worms) and we're stuck begging to be allowed to hit things that are in melee range. Doesn't this strike any of the devs as being a little stupid?
PLEASE, fix this before you change ANYTHING else.
Liriel Baenre
Dassle, the problem with your logic is this...
When we make it into melee range, while running, we can't hit you.
How are we supposed to kill you when every attack on you comes up with "that target is out of range," even when we're running right on top of you? Are we clear now? Thanks.
Liriel Baenre
there will always be kiting between melee and ranged,it's simply in the games nature.
Holo,
My guildmate is a TKA, I am a pistoleer "trickshot".TKA guildmate has only completed the intermediate level TKA skills, so I wanted to duel him and see what he's got. He absolutely wasted me, even though I was spamming fanshot. Of course, I didnt run away, just stood there, like most players do. I repeat, he absolutely wasted me and still had more than 50% of all his ham bars. I'd say thats pretty darned competitive.
I still feel the answer to being kited is adding encumbrace/ armor/equipment slows. Why can I carry 1000 lbs of steel, in fully combat armor ( yea those storm troopers can do a minute mile), 5 different weapons, crafta house... all the while MAINTAINING my seperation from a person or mob (assuming the terrain is the same or we have the same terrain ability(forget the scout name for it))?
This was suggeted a while ago think on the first set of feedback to SOE. This wouldnt solve the out of range problems with server/client.. but would DEFINITLY make all meleers more viable (i dont do PVP).
I have no problem with a person lying prone shooting me. But when hes in full combat armor (basically unpowered si fi heavy armor) that youd think he was an old knight in full plate mail, running as fast as me in sandals and shorts????? this would give us the ability to close, granted it doesnt gaurentee wed live to close. and if we chose to add armor then we would pay the encumbrance/speed penalty too.
Troll #1 says: "Kiting is part of the game. Deal with it."
Answer: I have no problem with someone who stays out of my range killing me. As a melee character I expect that to happen. What I want to be able to do ( as said already a billion times before ) is hit someone I'm running after when I get close. Something like "/stick" would be nice. I would settle for "/lunge" to command my character to run at the targetted player and as soon as I get close enough AUTOMATICALLY attack him. As it stands now I could run right alongside someone and unless I "attack" at the precise moment my enemy happens to be within range of me, I'll get the "Out of Range" message.
Troll #2 says: "I fought my low-level TKA friend standing still with a pistol and he completely owned me."
Answer: That's how its supposed to be. I have no problem with the damage dealt by TKA. They didn't even have to raise it as far as I was concerned. If you're a pistol user you shouldn't let me get real close. Keep me 40 meters away and you will kill me. If you are a rifle user and we start out 100 meters apart I expect to be dead or near dead by the time I close the range.
Venting over. We now return you to your regularly scheduled moronic postings.
Have a nice day...
