Well if we are getting hit for maximum dmg by ranged personal. And we infact do 1/3 the dmg of a riffleman, who has the advantage of range, but has the disadvantage of 2.5x melee defense penalty. isn't there somthing fundementaly wrong with this picture?

our range is 3m his is 64m he hits you for 1500 dmg i hit him for 500 to 200 if he has composite on hehe.

That would explain why every npc with a pistol hits harder then you would think they should. also explains why we get 2 shoted in pvp.

any idea if this is somthing they are willing to look at?

I am a Riflman/TKA and dont spend much time on this board. I am very surprised one of the issues NOT brought up by melee classes is that toughness should work for ranged damage as well. It would alow melee to close distance and maybe have half a chance against ranged.

I had actually posted a template i had been considering a while back that would allow for a Considerable chunk of the defense mods to be a character. Not sure what became of it however.

Just did an experiment for the heck of it....

General defenses...

a Ranged toon for whatever reason - takes pistoleer/carbineer/sharpshooter (masters can be attained w/ available points.....altho you won't move fast over terrain or be able to heal or... (grin)) All listed are defenses.

Block +20 Cover +80 Dizzy +30KD +45 Stun +30 MeleeD +33 RangedD +34 Counter +20 Blind +30 Intim +15 Posture +50 Dodge +30

A Melee Toon for whatever reason - takes TK/Fence/swordsman - All are masters - 4 points left

Combat Equ +85 Blind +40 Intimidate +40 Posture +80 Dodge +25 MeleeD +76 RangedD +64 Counter attk +25 Dizzy +45 KD +85 Stun +45

Note there is the whole category of if UA Tough + 1h Tough + 2h tough mix/match/add/seperate Unarmed Tough - +57 One handed Tough - +32 Two handed Tough - +38

Note it would be odd to see this mixture... but i've heard it said that the ranged classes more resemble the classes of melee other than TK - so throw that in here....

One handed + Two handed + Pikeman also leaves a big four points.. =)

Block +20 Counter +25 Dizzy +80 KD +85 Stun +60 MeleeD +64 Combat Equil +30 Blind +50 Intimidate +40 Posture +80 Dodge +25 RangedD +49

w/ +10 UA Tough, +38 2h tough, +32 1h tough, +26 Pike tough.

Just thought the numbers were interesting.... so if you were REALLY dedicated... and didn't mind a LOT of down time... you COULD master 3 versions of weapons... in your chosen type of combat... and that is what the defenses would be (Ranged vs. Melee) I find it REALLY interesting that melee's have a LOT of D vs KD/PC... the two most used attacks in the game.... (of course this LARGE amount comes at GREAT expense... IE trying to master all but one of the Melee masteries....) IF the toughs added - would be 106 toughness for the 1h/2h/pike class 137 for the TK/1h/2h class.... course... doesn't matter vs. Ranged.. (grin)

SO - lets say you went hybrid =)

TKM/PistoleerM/Mostly Medic (all level 4 except crafting line)

Defenses....

Combat Equilibrium +55 Dizzy +25 Posture +50 Dodge +30 Blind +30 KD +50 Stun +35 MeleeD +47RangedD +41

w/ UA Tough of +57

Well - like i said - i thought it was interesting =) just looking at the dif stats/abilities...

Heck... ya could just forgo PVP and be a TKA/Doc like me =) (grin) I'm in a goofy mood so don't ask why i'm lookin up all these numbers in dif posts... its 1am fer crying out loud =)

Basicly does Unarmed toughness stack with armor?

so it would be like +40 UT and your armor would also absorb the blows?

or by unarmed they mean no armoar at all, just in clothes or nekked.

Hey there, Thunderwulf. I've seen a lot of posts and contributions you've made, and wanted to say thank you for the time you've spent on it.

I'm wondering if you could elaborate on the skill mods "Melee Defense" and "Ranged Defense", and how they play into damage alongside Unarmed Toughness.

Thanks
Abdul

While I'm here though, Just for peeps to know... I think the defence v Posture change and defence v knockdown do stack across Melee professions. I duelled a TKM/Master Brawler who seemed not to be able to knock me down too easily. At that time i had all of the footwork column of Fencer which (if i remember gave me +40 to def-v-pc and +40 def-v-kd) and had 0-0-4-3 of TKA.

btw, I'm a great fan of the idea of having 1h, 2h, unarmed, and polearm toughness all merged into 1toughness mod. This would give usbetter defenses as a whole, and prevent the riduclous ganking by BHs, Riflemen and commandos thats been going on without having to nerf the hell out of any Marksman professions. Fair for everyone that way

In light of the recent BE changes, does this mean their +melee defense tissues will add in with our +unarmed toughness? If so wearing clothing I might be able to make it to a grand total of +70 melee toughness ... that'd be sort of neat!

I would like to know this also. If I have +40 unarmed and wear 40% composite, do I get 80% resist vs kinetic when unarmed?

that sucks. Most enemies arent going to be some TKA master, more likely they are ranged attackers kiting you.

Deadnewbie: The BE mods on clothes effect melee def, which is not related to unarmed toughness. So no, you would not be able to get up to +70 unarmed toughness.

On that note though, I would like someone to post how they think the +melee and +ranged def mods work. There is no way possible they work the same as unarmed toughness in terms of the % they resist.

I read that melee and ranged def work as follows. For every 2 points of def it is a -1% to hit u with a ranged or melee attack. However that somethings with high enough bonuses will be able to negate ur defensive bonuses due to extremely high accuracy modifers. The defenses have nothing to do with dmg aborbing or resists just make u hard to hit.
