Rancors also drop VK's or at least they used to.

No, in fact rancor teeth replace sword cores so can't be used in VKs at all. I think the only DOT weapon that you can craft is a modified republic blaster.

DOT VKs are always looted and their strength generally depends on how tough the NPC is you looted it from.
