There is a Triple Threat PVP guide on the smuggler (or was it pistoleer?) forum...very good read, very informative...but don't let it get you eyelids...

I always make big progress after experimenting a bit on guildies (usually they just stand there and get the crap beaten out of em...for me to check what is best... we try out possible scenario's to come up with counters...etc...), then go out and doe friendly duels with know PVP'rs

If you beat people straight away there are two possibilities:

-you're a natural (fat chance lol)

-your choosing too easy opponents...

Duelling great pvp'rs and loosing is no shame, as you learn A LOT from fighting them.

After duelling comes group tactics....but that's a whole other story...

One thing I also tried to make me a better fighter: try fighting unbuffed unarmored vs. unarmored but buffed players (just take pixie and vercupti)

As your moves cost you a lot of ham it makes you a very efficient TK

I stopped doing this when some covert reb thought DB an unbuffed opponent in a friendly duel was easy FP

Just wanted to mention I absolutely love this template, with the exeption of poison chuckers you'll be very competitive if you play right....
