Thread: New Publish 6 weapons?!?!
I think the problem is the term "unarmed". This term is the cause of problems in this debate. It should be "martial arts". When people hear unarmed they think no weapons. Which is misleading. Martial artists use all kinds of weapons in conjunction with their attack with feet, hands, elbows, knees, head, etc.
Also this is not Asia centuries ago. This is STAR WARS. No one in their right mind is going to charge a guy with a blaster with no protection. Wearing armor designed to protect against blaster fire would allow someone to get close to a gun toting target to use martial arts on them. Secondly weapon of many types are used in conjuction with martial arts. HIstorically the martial arts developed in china because the peasantry was outlawed from bearing arms. So they made their bodies their weapons and they turned common farming impliments into weapons (because they were farmers and were allowed to have "farming tools"). If you notice many martial arts weapons look very similar to farm tools. In Star Wars, were technology is very advanced, it is perfectly acceptable to think people would have made vibroknucklers and possibly otheritems. Such as a powered glove that does some sort of stun/energy/blast/ damage. There are also a host of versions of martial arts weapons that could be put in the game.
Stop focusing on the term "unarmed". It was a poor choice to choose to describe that brawler tree leading to Teras Kasi.
Also I have heard there are NPCs or creatures out there that have 100% Kinetic resistance. In game terms it is not fair to haveMOBs we can't hit in some way.
In closing, this is STAR WARS, not ancient China. If you want to be a martial artist and take on Stormtroopers or other players packing heavy laser weapons, you had better believe you'd put on that body armor and strap on your vibro knuckler. And possibly even whip out some cool exotic martial arts weapons that have advanced star wars technology built into them.
You are right Jherad that is the literal translation I was thinking of my martial arts training : }
For those who do not like or want to use weapons may I recomend mastering the brawler and fencer lines.
I am a few boxes shy in fencer but I will get there soon.
Jherad can you please clarify that the mixing or stacking of "Generic" skills does indeed work as intended. For example "Dodge" from fencer should stack with anything as it is a generic skill and not "1handed Dodge" or "Melee Dodge". It was written this way so I hope it actualy works and is going to stay that way due to the investments that players have made.
Also does damage mitigation 1-3 from TKA stack/add/mix with damage mitigation from Fencer. It is written as a generic skill and took many hours to earn the box so it should add.
It sure would be nice to have the Dev's simply put in writting the skill mechanics for us players. We are investing our time into what should be obviousbut clarification from the source should have been here from the start.
i dont think we shold get weapons in unarmed 1-4, that grind is the hardest grind in the game...if it was really easy a lot more TKA's would be running around
i kinda like the idea for a wider variety of weapons, like a AP2 weapon or a restraint weapon

The only thing more silly than giving TKA AP2 would be giving AP3.
actually, more sillier than ap2, would be bleeds.. but we'll stay out of that area. And the new weapons i've heard of so far, is a variation of the power hammer, with better speed/damage (slightly) but with +5 ideal range.. (awesome)
also, I heard of a disruptor rifle for riflemen... looks nice, shoots nice, but acid damage, with stats comparable to T21... i forget where the screenshots were, but it's somewhere on imagedump, and the threads are on the prof forums respectively

TKA SHOULD get new wep(s). and don't tell me unarmed shouldn't get weps. look at chinese kung fu, the original unarmed combat style. there's like 100 different weapons in kung fu that can be used WITH the unarmed style together in harmony. that's bs. TKA should get something.
pretty weak argument there. each weapon is a different style that someone has to learn, as is each different unamred style (monkey, snake, drunken, etc.)
kung fu is a group of martial arts, a general word that include both armed and unarmed styles.
unarmed means only one thing- UNarmed. put any weapon in your hand, be it gun, knife, stick or rock, and you've just become armed.
Yes there are mobs in the game with insanely high kinetic resists, this can be said for almost every damage type, the only difference being that every other profession has at LEAST one other damage type to use against these mobs, we don't. If we go hunting in a group and we start to fight something with 100% kinetic resist we are completely useless to our group. A higher AP rating isn't the answer but we need some sort of variation. I'm personally tired of going against some one with 80% kinetic resist armor and buffs and being pretty much 100% unable to kill them unless they happen to be a complete noob.
