Thread: Really struggling for XP
After making novice tka, I decided that since everyone told me to go out and do huurton stalker missions then that's what I'm going to do. So, I run out to the stalker lair... hmm red con... well maybe they're not that tough. So... I dive on in. I've got three huurtons and a stalker kicking my butt at this point. Managed to get the stalker to half health before riding the cloning facility home.
It was at that point that I realized that people must be doing something different. Because I sure has heck couldn't take down that lair easily. So, I took regular ole huurton missions because a tkm said that I probably wasn't powerful enough to take stalker missions yet.
My point is, alot of people in this forum tell people to take on missions that they themselves can do easily because maybe they've mastered doc, CH or some other profession that really helps with soloing. So... really your best bet is to just experiment and see what is possible to do with your character template.
After gaining 3 boxes of tka in rapid succession to bring my tka state to 2/2/2/2 AND mastering brawler, it's like somebody flipped a switch and suddenly I can't find solo missions that are difficult enough for my tastes. So you can see how opinions on good missions can be quite biased.
So... if I were a novice tka, novice medic with reasonably good armor I would look for huurton missions or huurton matron missions on Dantooine.

Since the last patch it seems like the MOB AI was changed a bit. Before the patch, most stalker missions had two stalkers waiting for you, which could then be single pulled so you're only fighting one at a time. Now it seems there are three waiting more often than not.
Another good idea is to find another novice TKA or other melee'r and group with him. Each guy gets one stalker per wave. At 2222 try longhorns, they rarely DB and you can usually fight them one at a time. For me I found them as 11k missions usually under a 1km distance.
My suggestion to add to all these other great suggestions...ferel banthas. Heaps of them out near the krayt graveyard and have soft heads. As a novice TKA using unarmed 2 (and vk's) i was two hitting these things for 1000-1500 xp each time (grouped with a pet but not using it). Plus u get 15+ plus of them per lair.
In two hours i made over 100k xp just two hitting banthas. Now this isnt the same for other bantha types that have higher resists ferel is the way to go.

The Piket suggestions are excellent for making the grind from Unarmed IV to Novice TKA. However, please note that it is the Longhorns that do not BAF. Always attack the "male" Longhorn first if there is one around. It will just say "Piket Longhorn". If you attack a female and a male is nearby or pops, it will aggro on you. I had great success finding Longhorn spawns around the Imperial Outpost on Dantooine. You can't seem to get missions for these solo btw. I suppose if you had a high level pet you may be able to though.
I don't like Piket Plainswalkers. They BAF like crazy and give less unarmed xp than Longhorns when you are going from Unarmed IV to Novice TKA. Now that I'm a TKA, I guess I'll try heading back and see how the xp is.
Piket Protectors BAF and are a quick trip to the cloning vat unless you have a few boxes in TKA + Muon Gold or TKA/CH.
The importance of bleed, high kinetic resist Ubese, and at least Novice Medic is a must if you are going to attempt Piket Longhorns during your trek from Unarmed IV to Novice TKA. I'm not sure they are worth the trouble if you don't have all these or you also have some CH - they take a while to bring down without the bleed. The damage adds up over the long haul if you don't have a way to tank them with a pet or take them down quicker.
Hope this helps! You may also want to check the Commando forum for more ideas. Folks post frequently asking how to finish Unarmed IV. Most of those suggestions look like they'd work nicely going from Unarmed IV to TKA Novice as well. Try to have fun! It is truly worth it getting to Novice TKA. One poster in another TKA thread put it best, IMHO, when comparing Unarmed IV to Novice TKA: it is like the difference between "night on Pluto and daytime on Mercury".

Just did 2 Baz Nitch missions (one "regular" and one Giant Baz Nitch) on Dathomir this morning for a total of 70K unarmed xp. This is without using any of my Commando skills. However, I did use Muon Gold both times and powerboosted before taking on the Giant Baz Nitch. They BAF, otherwise I'd say Muon Gold would not be necessary.
I will go back to Dantooine and try the Huurtons and Pikets again as a TKA. Just looking for something to kill now where I don't have to keep popping drugs to avoid being incapped and DBed. Heh, heh.

How do you get an AT-ST to tank while you're using fighting melee? Aren't AT-STs ranged? Don't they back up and shoot?

I suppose you can have it shoot the lair and just stand there shooting while you pick them off one by one.
