I keep both sets of armors in my inventory and use 2 macros. One set is composite with high energy resists, the other is a set of ubese with higher kinetic, but crappy other stats.

I use the one set when I'm being shot at (pvp or pve), the other set for emergencies during tanking (some idiot shoots the nest, another nest comes over to join the fun, etc etc). Food, buffs and spice usually suffice, but sometimes that little edge of damage reduction helps as well.
