Thread: Where do the Devs get their Guidance for what a TKA is?
I have read this one. And while it is detailed, it is not the answer I'm looking for. I want to know how the DEV's viewTeras Kasi in SW:G. I won't want to be directed to established SW Fiction. There are already so many contradictions between established SW and this game, I want to know where that starts and ends for Teras Kasi in the DEV's eyes. Because THEY run the game. And it is not and will never be possible for them to formfit it into line with all the books/comics/games/etc out there. Thankyou for your constructive response, however.

Most of the stuff you will read though is plain fiction writen by players of the RPG. And most if not all of it has not base in the expanded universe of SW.
Teras Kasi is one of the martial arts that was a bit more detailed then the rest of it. It has some mentionings in sourcebooks aldo scant (hero's guide, Power of the Jedi), and a game called Masters of Teras Kasi i believe. If we have to believe that game then everybody and Luke is a TKM, but i do think they got the names of the moves from there.
A TK is basicly not diverent from the movie Kungfu fighter, Mastering the body to make blows feel softer then they are, quick reaction and speed, and dealing out a nice bunch of damage.
But thats just it, a good hand to hand fighter, but nothing as epic as a Bounty hunter or Jedi.
But i stay open for those who can point me to some sourcebooks (names) that prove me wrong.
This would be my assumption as well. But some things Teras Kasi are able to do make me after to believe there's more to us then simply being practicers of Star Wars' version of Kung Fu.
Powerboost goes a little beyond being able to condition your body to take blows. Which is something Unarmed Toughness can be attributes to. If powerboost were that simple, then most classes would have this ability. Certainly the other Melee classes.
Meditating while looking cool, lets look at what it does. It stops bleeding, heals wounds, slows poisons and helps fight diseases. This goes beyond centering yourself and relaxing your mind. This would make the perfect Jedi skill if it were passive and always active I'd say.
Anyway, thats primarily it as far as things that the standard run of the mill martial artist couldn't do. So I'm assuming there's more to us. But I want to hear that from the Devs. Honestly. Thankyou for your reply, though. it was constructive and well put together.

Tink a nice comparison would be a Kungfu guy and a Samurai, although both are deadly in there own rights they do have diverent qualities that only one of both pocess.
They changed powerboost a bit into a tank skill, what most of us believe we are. Although its a trap too if your dont keep an eye on the clock it can have an effect that knocks you of your feet *grins*
Meditate and the abilities to heal wounds and poison etc seem to come from "MA legends" where masters could heal there wounds and cure poisons etc. Wich fueled movies ofcource :-)
But what the Devs realy think, i dont think they will ever let us know. They probably sat in a circle talked about Martial arts and came up with some ideas they seen in movies, and stuff from the sourcebooks and combined it into Teras Kasi, added some cool moves and there it was born.
Good luck getting a dev to respond to this. They may prefer keeping the mystery surrounding TKA's alivethan providing source material.
I remember TKA being briefly mentioned in one of the earlier SWRPG's, but of course I no longer have the source of that information. For me to assume that it wasa developerbasis for the classis pure speculation anyhow.
I agree that TKA has a lot more flavor and history than generic classes, as does ranger IMHO (Antarian Rangers). That's one reason I play these classes.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas. And maybe a response before then. But I'm a patient man.
