Thread: We Now Suck!...

We do indeed "suck" <sigh>

I logged into the game, I am/was a Master CH AND TK.

I figured I'd start out slow and try to kill something simple, like a hurton pup. Instead I was completly schooled (in a bad way). I had a lvl 50 pet (Rancor) as an assistant. After watching my pet get eaten... found out mymy pet stims were useless, the puppy proceeded to gnaw on my leg untill it came off in one bloody lump. After a quick trip on the clone train I went back to hte lair, pulled out another lvl 50 pet and the EXACT same scenario happened.

Pre CU I was easily hitting for 1000+ damage, post "nerf" I was hitting for 80 <not a typo> AND was hitting so slow it was sadly comical.

My high level BE pets have been nerfed beyond beleif, and my beloved TK proff cannot even take on a single daggone hurton pupwithout running for my life!

This SUCKS COMPLETLY, I am now looking to see if swords or rifles is a viable combo with TK or CH :-(, becouse this combo isnt happening.

But I have to calm down and keep in mind the Devs have provided us with double XP week! <woot>

Oh no! Now I need a tissue too.

Seriously, stop crying. It isn't as bad as you're crying about and if you don't like it change professions of delete your character.

I do not agree with your perspective on what TKA has become since the CU was pushed to live. Here is my reasoning:

  • Our role in combat has been well-defined as a "tank". This differs from pre-CU, as combat professions didn't necessarily have roles (and if they did, it was lost somewhere along the umpty-ump changes and nerfs since the game first went live).

  • I personally found that I need to spend some time reacquainting myself with the profession. I have to tell you honestly, I also feeling like punting all my combat-related skills and start over. This way I can honestly re-master the profession.

  • In my opinion, there is no one profession that is going to give allow you to be a silver bullet. In fact, I don't believe any combination of professions will allow for this. However, there are several combinations that provide interesting templates. I suggest that you experiment while you are able (i.e., respect your character every 12 hours and play with it--you might be surprised).

  • The days of solo combat are gone. At the very least you need a pet (factional or otherwise). I actually have had a quite a bit of luck having an AT-ST dish out some serious ranged damage while I tank. The purpose of my tanking is simple--the mobs ignore the AT-ST and my "pet" lives a long healthy life.

  • We still have some rather special abilities, including the ability to heal our own wounds, states, and give ourselves a rather nice buff (that rivals anything a doctor can currently give us).

I personally am going to stick with master TKA. However, finding the right profession to complement it might be tricky. I'm going to stick with master CM for awhile, as it does allow me to dish out damage while tanking. Personally, my favorite right now is knocking the opponent down and paralyzing him. I found that the paralysis has a better chance of taking when the opponent is laying on the ground

So far the biggest problem I have found is that it is a must to mix TKM with another melee profession. Personally I like TKM/Master pikeman. With the attacks from pikeman I average 500-700 damge before armor break in PvP, and 700-1000 in PvE(mostly dependant on level). So far the only profession I havent been able to beat is full template jedi. Breath of heaven, Veghash, kiwik, pixie, moun gold and synth steak are your friends(dont know if pica pie actually works or not since dodge is out the door). Since there given us powerboost back, i might try to take jedi again. Now I need to get my BE/tailor friend to make me some new clothes.

Pikatta does something, the benefit seems to be a reduction in hits taken as well as a reduction in damage taken per hit. Here a link to some data a chef put together:

As an ex TKM and have played with it on TC, I must admit that the initial outlook was bleak, from what I saw from the TC COB and innate armour makes the whole idea much more playable.

You cannot deal damage in quite the same way as you could before but there again, if you sat back and thought about it the TKM was way overpowered under the old system.

The Old TKMs main way to fight was kd/dizzy and then spamming uah3 or headhit, fine that worked and was especially effective in pvp but the downside to that was that with Thak and ithorian mist most of the power was removed.

My jedi finally faced a tkm just before the cu and after taking thak, brandy, synth and air cake the fight went something like this.

I was dizzied

I dizzied BH with dervish 2

I got a posture change with saber slash

BH fell over

Spammed Dervish 2 until BH was incapped---> Dead

Now ok this was a not very good TKM and Im sure that a lot of people would have done better and at least 1 TKM based BH forced me into using a holo cos the fight went on for so long.

But the simple fact remained that most fights were down to who got the KD/Dizzy in first.

The new system has changed that but there are upsides to this, TKMs ave been redesigned to be tanks and not awesome damage dealers but with the correct secondary professions this can be made to change quite a bit, the animations are not as good as they used to be and that is a shame for a lot of professions but there are really 2 choices.

We have all be returned to n00b status on profs that we have known and loved (In some cases made pretty well useless such as Docs and Ents/ID)

This could be with the devs help a good thing for SWG and I for one hope that it will become so we just have to wait and see
