Im a Teras Kasi Master and i've found this works for me...
When you are you are working on gaining novice tka, go for the fastest VK that you can find...when i started out, i used a speed sliced 1.5, and i was attacking like 3 times as fast in pve...
once you get novice, find some more powerful VK, and get them sliced...do this until you can get some nice sliced power vk, (mine do max 207)...TKA comes with some insane speed mods, and you dont need to worry about fast VK after novice...unequip VK when using certain specials...they have horrid encumbance...doing an unarmed hit 3 with them equipped costs me almost 100 per shot...thats a lot considering that you attack at like 1.0...so much more i could say, but im fat and lazy so bye....

Correct! you hit the speed cap at master. Before you hit Novice though, speed sliced VKs are a godsend.

okay first of all, you don't ALWAYS need a VK. If you're a casual dueler and like to duel without buffs and without armor (even if they had armor), then as a teras kasi master you benefit from NOT using VK's because they don't drain your HAM faster when doing specials, so put it this way:
Unbuffed/unarmored
TKM with VK vs TKM without VK
who wins? the one without VK.
it's easy really, the one with VK's is killing his HAM when doing specials, and sure he's hitting hard, but not nearly as many specials as the guy without the VK can do, where the VK hits hard and can let you do 4 specials before running out of HAM, the guy that's without a VK can do about 8 specials and in essence do more damage.
Honestly, don't use a VK unless your HAM regeneration is increased, or you're buffed. (that's the only two rules of when to know to use one) btw, speed isn't increased that much with the VK, i still haven't tested it. At master level, it feels just as fast.

With the current state of the game, unless you're a hardcore roleplayer to a point of sacrificing ability, you need a VK to be any decent in PvP and PvE. Now high end content has medium or heavy armor, which only a VK can damage as a TKA. Unarmed damage without the VK is AP0, so your damage is reduced like...75% or some insane number.
In PvP I love using VKs not only for damage, but for wounding also. You attack and hit so fast you cause wounds to your target, which unless they're a TKA themselves with meditate or a doc, those wounds become annoying.
