The one problem with those calculations Laeren is that I dont think its a 33% chance to hit each pool. It seems more along the lines of... 50.30.20 or so. Random damage hits tend to hit the health pool more than any other, meaning its not quite "random" damage.
I use Body hit when Im trying to just whittle away something that an entire group is hitting. When Im on my own, its an UH move. Those tend to do much much more damage.
Even if it's 50/30/20 UABodyHit1 is still doing more damage to the health pool.
UABodyHit1/UAHeadHit1/UALegHit1 = 375 (health/mind/action)
UAH2 DPS 450 (50% = 225) (health)
UAH3 DPS 600 (50% = 300) (health)
The 'more damage' you're seeing from UAH3 is just the combat spam. But even if you're hitting the health pool 50% of the time, you're still only doing 300 DPS to the single pool. Ultimately, it's how you wanna play it, but it seems that doing a single-pool attack beats out doing spread attacks, at least once you've lessened a pool.
You can also look at Pistoleer for an example, where Body Shot 2 does more DPS than Stopping Shot, until you hit Master Pistoleer. Sure, Stopping Shot does more damage across 3 pools, but Body Shot 2, being a concentrated shot, gets the job done faster.
Interesting... who knows. The way I PvE is Ill hit the mob a few times with a UH, then depending on which pool is the lowest (almost always Health) I start using the targetted damage pool. I know I saw somewhere the actual breakdown of the "random" pool damage numbers. Perhaps Ill make an effort and find that...
