A cattle prod uses electricity to harm something. It's not designed to stun, on the contrary it's painful and is used to get cows moving. Used on a person you could do a lot of damage, and it is done by electricity.

A tazer is a device that fires darts connected to a handheld unit by wires. Electricity travels up the wires to immobilize them. But that's not an example of a melee weapon.

A stungun, on the other hand, has two prongs that arc electricity between them. That in fact is a melee weapon because you have to actually touch a person with it for it to work. This is to immobilize someone but it can kill someone with a weak heart, and the people I know who've been hit by one testify it is VERY painful.

As you can see, there are such things as electrical melee weapons. They aren't very effective in a fight so they're not usually used in combat. But we're talking about a society with cloners, hyperspace travel, handheld laser weapons... It's not at all implausible to assume they could make an effective poleaxe that can shock people...

Hehe, why not give use special TKA outfits that say "nerf me" on them.
