Thread: No tanking so what's the role of tka?
How can yousay a VK or Blastir fist is only for critters or NPC's that have highresit's to kinetic when as far as I can tell everything in the game has the same resit's? Till I can exama target and tell what stats it has I will go by the damage numbers I can see in my combat windowand they tell me to use bare fists.
As for tanking with TKM its a joke. So what if I can stay on a target a little longer then the next guy without getting killed? I bet the guy doing 1500 damage a hit to my 300 wont need to tank. In the end he will take far less damage because he kiled the target faster.
And tanking 3 level 80's is very hard to do. In the Myydril caves I can hang with 2 level 78 brains. When i kill them im all but dead but can do it. When there are 3 I must use spice, food and force crystal to survive.
My buddy is a MasterSwordsman and he CAN take on 3 without the food and spice. Why? Because he drops them much faster.
All in all I do love TKM but not for its combat skills. I love it for the fact I never have to buy armor ,weapons or heal wounds.
opps . . . I meant to say that TK weapons and their use WASN"T done yet and that creatures still needed to be worked on in regard to their resists. The different resists would determine the best weapon (if any) we should use to fight them with. These haven't been put in yet . . . that's why I said that the weapons would be more suited for critters asi think theymost likely will be.
I'd be interested is someone charted damage against PvP targets with armors of different resists to see if there is an effect right now using different weapons. They may just work right now in PvP.
Rightnow, bare hands absolutely do more damage but that may change when the mobs get altered so we need to keep an eye out. As far as the combat log goes . . . I've read that the log and the "floaties" aren't registering right in regard to the combo attack and it actually does do mor damage than Melee strike. maybe its messed up inother ways too?
But lets also not forget all our recoveries . . . how is the gunman going to do the 1500 damage when he is too dizzy to get up from a creature that knocked him down . . . or too stunned to do that much damage? Not only do we take hits for them, we also allow them to keep fighting unhindered.
Your friend (the swordsman) may be able to take them down faster but he isn't fighting as a TKM. He is mixing both the defensive qualities of TKM with the offensive of Swordsman . . . which is something we all can do and most are already.
Our benefits are pretty good as you mention . . . no armor . . . personal buffs . . . . and never a need for a doc to heal wounds. All in all we're pretty good . . . losing the ability to solo isn't reason to drop it and I'm glad you're sticking with it dispite the shortcomings you have found.
Your right . . . being able to kill the things on us would enable us to Tank more especially with multiple mobs but then TK would again be the flavor of the year and everyone would be one.
One last note . . . A tank is only as good as those who are backing him up. We shouldn't have to tank multiple creatures for a long time . . . if our group members are doing their jobs too ![]()
Maybe his friend was mswords/mpike. Each profession has a way to tank. Tka using cob, sword uses flurry, fencer has blind and pike has intimidate. Cob might be the best tank ability, but since tanks overall are pointless andbecause ofdimished returns the higher defense of tka doesn't mean much the professions, including range are not that different.
The idea of a good offense making a good defense applies to this game. What's the role of any tank in the game? They aren't needed and even if they were they make piss poor tanks. Think about this, damage holds a mobs interest, assuming you had a mob would lived long enough for this to matter, with the tka's weak damage and 1 crapy long recharge taunt, how would they hold the mobs interest?
Oh and recoveries, range has them, so the gunman would just use dizzy recovery. Plusdizzy doesn't knock or keep you knocked down anymore.
"Call me crazy but I was under the impression that Teras Kasi Arts were supposed to be based on a "martial art". This being the case why can't we wear armor? Martial arts warriors have been wearing armor for thousands of years, like all things they make unique armor specifically designed for their skills. Remember the Samurai? They wore armor and kicked booty and took names. Similarly in real martial arts you can do tremendous offensive damage simultaneously having strong defensive abilities. I know this is a game, and it is sci-fi, but Star Wars is based partially on Japanese stories and ideas, so why isn't that being implemented? "
er . . . correct me if I'm wrong but Samurai would be considered Swordsmen/TKM if they were SWG. Actually Lucas created the lightsaber style based on Samurai sword fighting (which is why in the first movie it was all about using 2 hands to weild it). Samurai used a sword first . . . hands second.
Also remember that many (though I want to say most) martial arts are based on defense . . . they are skills to protect and avoid combat which I think the current TKA kinda does.
For a while I was only level 54, TKM my only combat prof and I could hold my own again equal level mobs . . . ok I couldn't kill them in 3 hits like before but I could still take them. Multiple mobs were a problem but that could be solved getting a group. The Devs want the game to be more social . . . they want us to group . . . they want us to interact with each other.
TK weapons are done yet . . . the devs told us that . . . if you're using a VK or any other TKA weapon you will do less damage . . .simple as that. The intent on TKA weapons is to give us different damage types so when critters are resistant to kinetic . . . we can switch to energy . . or blast. Examine the VK and notice that its an energy weapon now.
Things are changing . . . we don't have to like it . . but we have to accept it. If you'de rather not . . time to switch proffs or games entirely. Hard facts . . . but true. ![]()

From what I"ve seen in order for us TKs to be worth anything we need full buffs, food and power boost in order to be able to go after anything decent. I'm a level 57 TK master and Swordsman and I'm being laid flat by spineflaps on a regular basis. Even in a group of 5 I'm having my hide handed to me on a platter.
The totally screwed up thing about this whole "Combat Upgrade from Hell" is that we are paying to Beta test. Why do we pay $15 a month to play a game where the developers are trying to fix the new problems they have added to the old problems? Why didn't they fix all of these problems while we were still testing Beta to begin with? Isn't the whole point of having these different combat skills so that each of us can have significant unique and helpful abilities?

What I'm gathering from various people is that we need to completely abandon the notion that TK can be our sole combat art, that we are now forced to use other combat forms and we can no longer keep the notion of a "pure" martial art. So ultimately TK is a joke and those of us who wanted to try and follow a simple Buddha-like/ Monk like lifestyle & focus can no longer do that.
Homogeny, the basis for a compliant society.
well if you knew anything about martial arts, you would know that the samurai were only a small fraction of japanese and chinese martial artists, and infact the samurai out of several different styles where the only ones to where armor. which means only 10% of historical styles of martial arts were armored. any other warrior wearing armor, specialised in swords etc.
the vast majority of martial artists groups in china, especially in the shoalin days wore nothing but a full top and bottom suit, armor would cause a hinderance. there is an old frame ChenTaijiquan move called "too lazy about tying coat" created by the founder of Taiji during the Qing Dynasty, the move represented that nothing was ever tied so in the event of an attack, every limb on the shoalin monks body was easliy used to bring down his enemy.
any martial artist that wore armor, wore it due to that artist also specialising in a weapon, hense the samurai! TKA is the closest thing to a shaolin monk, no armor, strong meditation, and using nothing more than its fists to defend itself.
