I'm currently master pistoleer, master pistoleer, smuggler 0/0/4/0, and some othe random stuff.
+107 melee defense w/o enhancements, some really nice state defenses like +70 defense vs. KD, and both level three mitigations. It's mainly just a template that lets me mix it up between ranged and melee so I don't get bored. If I got really serious about PvP I could dump some points into fencer to get the defenses eve higher.
If you go this route though, you may want to invest in enough skill tapes to speed cap on pistols. Master pistoleer only gives you +74, so I invested in a couple attachments to bring me up to +90. At that speed, I'm only just starting to come off the cap with the long delay specials like last ditch with my slowest pistol (a 632 max DE-10).

Mitigation does not stack, and last I remeber you only get melee defense from Pistoleer"
Mitigation doesn't stack, but, with pistoleer you get Ranged Mitigation which will reduce ranged damage against you. It doesn't have to stack because it's seperate from Melee Mitigation.
Also, not to nitpick, but you get +5 Ranged Defense at Master Pistoleer.
