you also get both melee and ranged dammage mitigation 3
I was under the impression that, and correct me if I'm wrong, ranged mitigation only applied if you were holding a ranged weapon... and vice-versa for melee mitigation with a melee weapon. Is this not true?
Also, at what point do 'Def. Vs.' skills cap?

Heres another template i did almost like your template:
Master Pistoleer
Master TKA
4/4/4/0 Fencer
That gives:
Defense Acuity +96
Defense's-
Blind +90
Intimidate +20
Posture Change +100
Dizzy +85
Knockdown +120
Stun +55
Dodge +195
Melee Def +176
Ranged Def +121
Im digging this template, even though i go over caps.
Thanks for sharing your template with us.

I can't imagine TK without having a 20m triple damage knockdown attack. I use that so much... That and intimidate2 which seems to last forever
Lunge1 is 20m, and more people have def vs KD then def vs Posture Change down.
Intimiadte1 stacks twice.
Master brawler is nice, but I would much rather put the skillpoints else where.

I agree with tyrson, unless I went for a mix of 3-4 melee professions I would rather put my skillpoints somewhere else

"Lunge1 is 20m, and more people have def vs KD then def vs Posture Change down.

You should actually check out the skill trees sometime. You'll notice that every profession that gives KD defense usually gives an equal, if not greater amount of posture change defense. If you get one, you're guaranteed to have the other. The idea that KD defense is more common is just incorrect common knowledge. Also, assuming the opponent is not dizzy, knockdown takes longer to recover from than a posture down to kneeling. And since Lunge1 and Lunge2 work off of different timers, it's really handy to have the ability to do both.
Intimidate1 lasts a very short time compared to Intimidate2.

This way you get TKM for a good melee profession, with states and you all know the good and bad things with TKM, but then you get insane ammounts of defence...
Dodge 125 (capped)
Just as a small note - I was under the impression that Dodge (and Swordsmans Counterattack / pike's Block etc) don't actually do anything unless you have that weapon type equipped. So if you have a Pistol equipped, then yes, your Dodge will stack up with fencer and vice versa - but if you're running around doing dmg with TKM, then you get 0 dodge.
Thats just how i believed it was - i may be mistaken.

I would guess that this is based on the fact that KD food is used quite often if the opponent knows you have a KD attack.

You are correct sir.

It's not used often though. I don't know anyone who uses thakatillo regularly, and check out posts in this forum and others where people ask what food and drink they use, nobody mentions it. Thakatillo is the boogie man for TKAs... We know it exists so we insecurely assume that everyone out there is using it. I just don't think that's the case.

You may well be absolutely correct on that one - I think a lot of people assume that KD food is in rampant use by everyone and his brother

Well, i whipped up a template based on some responses i received yesterday, and they're similar to the threadstarter's template. However, the reason i have less defenses is due to the fact that i absolutely refuse to drop smuggler.
Master Smuggler
Master TK
Pistoleer 0/0/4/0
Fencer 4/0/2/0
What this gives me:
Def VS Dizzy =55
Def VS KD =70
Def VS Posture Change (down) =50
Defense VS Blind =60
Defense VS Intimidate = 10
Defense acquity = 96
Dodge = 50 (If i plan to start pvp'ing with pistols, ill master pistoleer for better dodge and RoF on the gun)
Ranged Defense = 116
Melee Defense = 131 (Overcap).
I suppose its not too bad, considering i can tradeskill as well, so im not limited to just hunting and killing people.

Sorry for the double-posting. I understand that pistols become more effective with the BH and Smuggler lines to compliment it, so i would think that a better template for PvP than what Iasma has mentioned is going melee all the way.
TKM
Master Fencer
Master Swordsman
Dizzy = 65
KD = 95
Def vs pos. change = 90
Stun = 65
Dodge = 105 (While fencing)
Blind = 60
Intimidate = 40
Counter attack (With swords) = 110
Melee def =156 (overkill)
Ranged def = 129 (overcap)
Since pistols seem to be slightly weaker if you dont have the right pistol equipped and the right skills (M pistoleers just arent as effective until they pick up a tree from smuggler and BHs), you could simply go with mastering these 3 melee profs. Course, a master doc will be able to heal himself in battle, so target mind (which pistoleers still cannot do).
This isnt the best template, but it looks nice to me for PvP, theoretically. You could possibly dabble and make it better, of course. For example, if you're planning to use TK and Fencer in PvP. Master them both, get the tech line in pistoleer, and then pick up a tree from either the first 3 boxes in pikeman or swordsman. You'll end up with something like this:
Dizzy = 105
KD = 120
Def VS Pos. down = 100
Stun = 75
Dodge = 115 (Fencer)
Blind = 90
intimidate = 40
Ranged = 116
Melee = 141
Try the same thing, but this time used the pikeman 0/0/2/0 tree instead. Most of the values shown above will get a bonus, but not intimidate, which is why i would prefer the swordsman line, since the other values are already decently high.
I guess its all up to how your style of play, is. What works for one person might not work for another.
