Thread: Does anyone USE TKA??
TKMs,
IMHO TKM was the most unbalanced of all professions Pre-CU. The only profession that was able to kill all and fear nothing. Think about it, what profession would go toe to toe vs Jedi. Why do you think pre CU the most popular pro was TKM? TKM took the hardest blow during the CU. I have been a Pikeman and a MasterRiffleman and I am telling you, having know TKMs, fought with them they got pwned. Now, suffice to say does it suck...im on the fence. In the climate that they are going for i think they wanted more balance amoung the professions as well as a need to make the group motif more appealing. I was Master Pikes before the CU, it wasn't about damage, I thought it was cool knocking and dizzying 8 mokks at once on Dant, its looked awesome. As a riffleman now, and having been at a PVP even on my server 3 days ago. I couldn't believe I went toe to toe with a TKM and beat him. Only becauseI know in the old system that wouldn't happen, no way no how. One KD and a couple of spins and i was down for the count. I know many TKMs are not happy with that change. Maybe giving them the ability to do a bit more damage is the answer. I do think they went from one extreme to the other. Maybe more balance is needed. I know about 75% of my friends who left the game were TKMs though....![]()

I was TKM pre CU and the only real difference I see now is the lack of a spin attack. So we don't hit for 2000+ point of damage per hit now, all that does is slow down our kill rate to what everyone elseis. Butwe can take the hits and finish most stuff solo that other classes still can't.
I understand if you want spin attacks you take the Pikeman line..but we are still powerful from what I see and even pre-CU had to take Doc lines and Sword lines as melee and defense stackers..
Bladius,
I am sure to him its borked because a buffed TKM was once feared. Now that is no longer here/true. I once saw my friend spend like 45 minutes killing a Krayt by HIMSELF on Tat. Ok, what other profession could really do this by himself, really. I know after 2 or 3 shots my Riffleman @$$ would have been out of there lol. This is where i think it was unrealistic. But I do think sony was to another extreme

TKM is supposed to do crappy damage, its a tnk, last i heard, the definition of a tank is a person who keeps the target off the group, but dosent do enough damage to actually kill the target, so the group can get XP. But also can do enough damage to be of help in a large scale group hunt, where survival is more important than XP.
Can i get a QFE?
where on earth does it say TKM is supposed to do crappy damage?
TKM is suposed to do above average damage, TKM is supposed to be crappy at crowd control, TKM is supposed to be an amazing tank..
sadly we're far from what we're supposed to be

because they changed how the profession worked in the CU, if its not the same stength as pre-cu doesnt make it borked

TKM is suposed to do above average damage they do, but average damage i think... wasnt it rated 3 outta 5? , TKM is supposed to be crappy at crowd control they are, TKM is supposed to be an amazing tank.. they are... last time i checked excluding jedi theyre best tanks in game
sadly we're far from what we're supposed to be
Funny, I do just fine damage, I AM an amazing tank, and I do halfway decent in the area of crowd control, at least in the fact that i'll just pull them all in to me with area taunt and tank them all untileveryone else kills em off.
vander seems to be the only one with experience. as for tanking, i am amazing at it. improved cob and area taunt at the right time,i get all the damage and can take it.
if you dont believe me, i dropped TKM yesterday, and am only 3400. that gives me 3000 innate armor.i dont have my 6000 battle armor yet, so ive been using innate...
yesterday, with that same 3000 innate armor, i was tanking SBD's and other Death watchs in the DWB with no problem. i dont see how thats isnt an amazing tank

just wondering... because you still gain the defensive bonuses from TKA when weilding a fencer/swordsman/pikeman weapon, so is ther much incentive to suse TKA as your dmg dealer?Message Edited by chardin on 08-10-2005 07:03 PM
I use Katarn Knucklers unless I am capped in unarmed, and only then do I switch to PH. The KK use way less action and let me attack much faster. I mix in TKA advanced combo and sword crit and power attack, and then use the generic brawler moves for the rest. So yeah, I use TKA, as much as one can use any single prof when you are a dual-combat prof.

As I remember it was a buffed MRM/MCM who was feared...TK's ended up being cannon fodder chasing down an opponent.
As for soloing Krayts...it wasn't that feasible to solo one before because of the lack of damage we did to heavy armor (is armor type mitigation even in post-cu now?) and I hear people are still soloing them today..just not the Ancients.
I also hear MRM are soloing Krayts today because of the Root ability...
I won't deny we are not as bad ass as the old days..I am just saying we are still bad ass..just takes longer for us to kill anything ![]()
I can't speak for PvP...I never found (tried it off and on) enough time andpatience to get uber gear, uber foods, uber weapons and then die during loading or get ganked in 2 minutes from speed and wall hacks...
What the CU has provided us to an extent is the need to consider what targets we can attack and tank at the same time (therefore a challenge)instead of walking up to a nest of Rancors and spin kicking the everloving sh!t out of them in 2 minutes flat.
Again, I miss some parts of the old days also but then again I quit pre-CU because I was fed up with most of the old system anyways..
Bladius!
Come on!!! Surely you jest! A TKM master not feared!? A tkm was a Level 80 group all his own! lol Slap on some composite armor and it was game over! lol. MRM? Soloing Krayts!? Root is not a MRM skill (assuming you mean master rifflemen lol) it is a Pistoleer trait...Although i did go up the Pistols tree to get it ![]()
I agree with the CU assessment. And I think its more fun that way. As a CH I could always hunt alone a long time ago (pre buffing) but it was nice to get 5 guys together and go kill sh!t. That was the fun in the game i think the CU is trying to bring back. People got spoiled after buffs were introduced and before the CU.
Pre CU world wasn't great, the outcome of post CU remains to be seen
