You can suplement our innate armor just by using armor, sure its great not to have to wear it, but a swordsman in battle armor with TKA 0100 has about the same defense as us. All I am saying is that our defense good? yes, uber? not by far. The Devs have proven that they don't have the profession balanced yet just look at commando LOL, I just don't want to be passed over on the few improvments we I feel are entitled to.

I wouldn't mind damage being up'd a bit, but I'm ok where it's at now. Those katarn knucklers dish out 550dps for me, so I'm ok with that, though a few more specials would be nice (/mourn unarmedhit3!). Oh, and CoB being achievable so low in the profession does stink. I pointed that out in Mankinds "Focus Thread - Tanking as a TKA" sticky. You should put your comments in there too if you haven't already.

Based on info I've gleaned in this forum (assuming the CA modifiers are working) it will ONLY function if you are bare-fisted. So equipping a VK or KK (katarn knuckler) or whatever will negate that +8 unarmed damage tape.

I dont know what you guys got TKM for, but I got it for the shweet defenses--look at my sig--I got 0040 Pikeman for defense--and 3000 in Fencer for more TankagE lol---I got swordsman for the shweet hammer and its damage

I certainly do not wish to fan the flames here, but being virtually a TKM-only Tank (TKM/MSmugg/Novice BH = CL80) I decided to run an experiment on a non-contaminated TKM profession.


I /dueled my exceptionally good friend Eelaa Orbett (MCM/MCH/BH 0-4-0-0= CL80) last night to test how much punishment I could take from both 1-v-1 and above.


Remember, I do not have Doc or CM abilities, relying solely on the TK "Defence : Very Strong (5)" rating. Eelaa has never dueled before either.


Well. One-on-one - as suspected - no problem at all. Eelaa's healing abilities gave me cause to frown since a lot of my hard work was wiped away in a single heal. But thats ok; a CM should have good healing. Her debuffs also made life difficult, but the CoB and TKIM allowed me to plough on regardless and incap in under a minute even with her Battle Armour. Good going.


Then we tried her and her 3 Narglatch pets versus myself. This was the true test, since "Tanking" requires the ability to handle the enemy in as many numbers as possible. Each Narglatch (CL 22) had 7k health each - which, again, I have no issue with since CH need them to be effective.


Things went a little worse than anticipated.


Eelaa sent her three cats on ahead, and I stood to meet them with PB active & CoB running (with no armour, as required). Immediately, a string on red numbers (mixed in with many white "Miss" reports) floated above my head, as the cats chipped away at my 3500 health. With moderate damage output, I was doing my best to put even one cat down, but even Dizzy and KD could only handle one at a time; during which Eelaa saw fit (LOL! I know she'll be reading this) to lay some heavy states on me (Infect et al). Watching my CoB time carefully, I ran to take on Eelaa personally with the cats still nipping at my heels (and ar$e).


Unfortunately, faster than I could even imagine, my health dwindled away to nothing. Less than 2 minutes had passed. Even before Eelaa got involved, I was in trouble. The three Narglatches represent (to me) below-CL threat combatants (3 CL22 vs 1 CL80) with - admittedly - above-average health. Still, by the very merit of being three times their Combat Level (a rating that I assumed meant something in the pro-CU SWG) I had assumed that coupled with my +500 CoB, I should have sustained very little damage indeed, if at all.


The point is, Teras Kasi Tanking is not what it should be for the profession on it's own. It is a shame Pikeman and/or Doctor are so desperately required to make this class viable, and it is important this fact is taken into consideration when debatting whether TKA needs attention.


As stated in another thread, I am a Tanker elsewhere. I consistantly play Tanker classes in all games that have this role (SWG, CoH, WoW, EQ2)- enjoying the feeling of being the one to take the beating for the team/group, even if I'm not the one doing the actual damage. I would love TKA to be up there with the same quality of contribution, but until certain concerns are discussed - let alone resolved - TKA will continue to be merely a fraction of the Tanking whole.


Which is a shame.

I'm very new to SWG but I've noticed a couple of things about my CL16 toon. I have almost everything I need for Master Marksman (all four sections of all four trees). I recently got into Brawler so I could go Teras Kasi (have Unarmed III, 1 Handed II and 2 Handed 3). When I do missions (solo), I fair well against most mobs when I fight them 1 on 1. Sometimes I do well with even 2 on 1, especially if the mobs are using ranged weapons. However, I get slammed by lower level (CL 10 in groups of 3). They took out my health in no time, had to burst run to save myself (good thing I have the Scout Tree that allows a longer burst run).

The role if TK postCU is very much like the role of fencer preCU. You have very nice defs, and can still win in battle. You just outlast your opponent rather than get them down quickly with tons of damage.
