Thread: How do the other TKMs manage??

I've been wondering for a while.... how can any TKA solo, say, a gurreck without armor? I played all the way to 2,2,4,2 without armor, and found that i could never really solo any of the harder planets. It doesn't matter if you do700 damageper hit, when you are getting hit for 250 by a creature with 10kHAM... i finally picked up a suit of composite, and i find that i can take just about any creature one on one. How do you non-armor-wearing TKs do it?

I didn't really solo alot, ignoring the time between starting the game to getting Novice TKA/CH. I always thought grouping was alot more efficient and I got to meet people

I haven't had any problems soloing the advanced planets (Dant, Dath, Lok, etc...). For me it was just learning what to hunt and to pick my prey carefully (and then learning how to pull properly as a melee profession). At the rate I am going I should be close to master by next week (only a couple hours a week mind you) because the the stuff I am hunting is easily giving me over 100k xp an hour (solo....no pets, no armor). So for me it comes down to:

1. know your prey (their AI specifically...what assists what and whether they are social or not)

2. know how to pull them (because anything worth killing normally is agro). Once I figured out how to pull properly the art of solo'ing as a melee class became ALOT easier.

3. open with full debuffs. I can take most 10k-15k HAM mobs if I can get all the debuffs to stick (that would be the trick wouldn't it?)

I wear Tantel/Chitin armor. I open with debuffs (unequipped VK) then start wailing away.

Yeah, debuffing is key. A mob thats' stunned, intimidated and blind is substantially easier to deal with. Just remember to remove your VKs before debuffing.

Example of how debuffing can save your life:

I am currently training a student now on Endor...yea...Endor.

He's just recently 2/2/2/2 in TK and he and I are master doctors self-buffing. Neither of us wear armor and he doesn't have outrageously nice Knucklers, but they're alright. I'm really just there for support and the occasional help when he needs it and the social aspect being buds and all. He has on three occasions been able to walk into a Jinda village with 4 (1 occasion) or 5 (other two times) and walk out alive without any help from me....nice he? I'm very proud of him.

How can he do this? He's mastered the art (it is one) of debuffing. He opens up without VKs and debuffs the loremasters (very very red), there's typically 2 of them. Then does the same to the elder (dark blue). Then usually does the same again to the white conning jinda there (forget the name). The light blue he leaves be.

"Why doesn't he just spend his time taking out the hard ones first than he'll take less damage?" He and I have tried that and it hasn't worked yet because the whole time you're working on the hard ones to get them to fall, the others are wailing on you. If you debuff, it sticks for a few minutes and can turn all of those 250 damage per hit attacks into 60 or so...not much there.

I've taken screenshots of each time out of sheer pride and surprise when he did this and he's just halfway through our profession. That's great xp for him (about 10k per mission, about 10 minutes or so including healing afterwards) and 22k credits per mission...not too shabby. I hate to give away secrets, but people need to hear these things. You TK's out there that are downhearted need to hear strategies and tactics and what they can do. We're not nerfed...not by any stretch of the imagination. Once the combat update comes...I can't think of one thing to complain about...but we'll see, I'm good at complaining.

He doesn't do the forum thing so I'm posting this for him.

I prefer to debuff with VK's equipped:

You debuff them for everything in the time it takes them to hit you once.
If you do it without VK's, they get a few good hits in, that to me is worse than VK use.

how do you solo high level creatures? intimidate intimidate intimidate

an intimidated pubam battlelord against my +40 (or so) unarmed toughness means that i get hit for 50-90. i took on a wild dune boar on tat (490-500 base dam) and it was hitting me in the 70s. it's all about keeping the target debuffed, and like mentioned earlier, if you have multiple targets, make sure to at the least keep the highest level ones debuffed.

Exactly this.
I always Intimidate as my first two opening moves now. If it's a group mob, i'll tab through each with one intimidate on each. Then do the whole set again another two times through.
This will inflict minimal damage on you, and i have found that i can take out 4 or 5 pubams at a time with this method.
Just don't use any other specials apart from intimidate and you have to be able to cycle fast through all of them to allow you to keep them all doing low damage.
As if i'm correct, single intimidate lasts for approx 20 seconds. But if you do it a few times on each, you get the stacked time.

Intimidate stacks? That's great to know. Thanks Ragman. And thanks everyone else for the flameless responses

Aye, but only the timer. The damage reduction will be the same regardless of how many you do.

My main opener is:
Intimidate, Stun, Intimidate, Blind, Intimidate, Lunge 1, Bezerk
Once zerg wears off, use intimidate a couple more times and zerg again.
You can usually kill off any 10k ham mob before their blind and stun wears off.

I wouldn't spread this around - this is exactly why knockdown got put on a timer....

True, very nice tip though, I never learned it myself on the way up, I got master brawler for intimidate2 - wouldn't want to stack that hehe.

I think I am just nerf shy =( I have seen too many hehe. Whenever something actually works they seem to kill it - and intimidate2 was my best friend on the road to mastery.

Make it more attractive for me to drop master brawler now and go for full doc if I can drop a few intimidate1's to soften things up. I admit it, I am a weenie, I don't fight things unless they are intimidated so I have been stuck at novice doc, master tk and master brawler for months, afraid to drop master brawler for fear of 'sucking'.

Simple solution, Gutshot. Just drop the Master Brawler box, and that alone. Go out and give intimidate1 a shot and see if you like it, if not you can just re-train the Master Brawler box. Since no XP is required to get to the Master boxes themselves, you're golden either way. =]
