Ok I know i'm going to master Ranger, no doubt about it...but the question I now face is... Finish Rifleman, or drop it for TKA mastery... or dabble in both so i have all angles covered? I've asked the rangers, and the riflemen (and women) now i want your two cents.

first off.. you can't dabble in rifleman just isn't worth it. as you can ask any rifleman its the one profession where mastering actually is worth it... big time. alot of people dabble in teras kasi however with meditate and such, so its up to you, if you wanted you get get meditate tree in teras kasi and get as far in rifleman as you can.. but i would say just get one or the other. all depends on what you prefer and what is better in your galaxy ranged or melee

This is really more of a Rifle V TKM issue. As stated, Rifle dabbling is a no - no. So its master one or the other. Heres my opinion:

Rifleman Pros:
- Massive damage
- Focuses on Mind pool
- Massive range of damage types
- Rifle and Ranger - Camoflague + Conceal Shot is a nice compliment

Rifle Cons:
- Higher in the tree, HAM costs get quite steep
- Abysmal accuracy when moving
- If the enemy comes close, when Rifle stands alone, you could be in some trouble

TKA Pros:
- Great range of states
- Low maintenance (Armour and Weapons not even needed)
- Very high endurance
- Ability to precision strike all three pools (Although considerably weaker, and no bleeds)
- Relative low HAM costs
- Self reliability

TKA Cons:
- Loses to Rifle in damage output
- Must fight in close range
- Only one damage type

A rough summary:

Rifle - Damage, damage, damage - One of the best offensive professions (alongside Sword, Jedi, and Pike)
TKA - Endurance, Defence, and Reliability - One of the best defensive professinos out there (alongside Fencer and Pistols)

hmm where did you get High State Defences from? A Teras Kasi Master gets:-

10 Vs Blind

20 Vs KD

15 Vs Stun

5 Vs Dizzy

30 Vs Posture Down

I don't consider that high to be honest :-/ anyways If it's rifleman or TKM i'm both so i'd say TKM i use a heck of alot more. Rifles are probably one of the toughest opponents in PVP because if you catch them they've probably taken foods to make your states useless and with 80% resists and then doing damage to a someone with 2.5 buffs is a tough contest. Depends on what you wanna to to be honest. I'd go Teras Kasi purely because it's alot lower HAM costs.

TKM also has a few nice tricks. Force of Will has saved my life more than once. Aditionaly the defense in TKM is preaty nice and Meditate helps too.

Its very early in the morning, Im tired - how I came up with "High state defences" is now beyond me . Thanks for the correction. Theres a thread on the ranger forum about templates which analyses a lot of popular ranger templates, including TKM/Ranger, and Rifle/Ranger. How well ranger compliments both those professions, I don't know - but they put up a nice "Pros and Cons" list for the templates over there, which may be worth looking at, if you haven't already.

I have and it's been a pretty good help... I like the idea of soloing anything and sending the droid in to harvest.... But it just seems much slower and less efficient for fulfilling contracts for people. Eventually I do want to PVP too.. Anyways thanks for all of your help ... I might just do TKM and if i dont' like it i'll pick rifles back up.

Thanks everyone.

I have the same dilema. But a little different. I am keeping TKM, that is for sure, but do I take my character up the TKM/Doctor route or TKM/Rifleman route.

TKM / doc and TKM / rifleman are both popular templates... i personally would get tkm / rifleman so you can stack some of that melee and ranged def, and also have melee and ranged mitigation (even though they both don't work at the same time) get a doc to buff you and have some docs around in PvP.... but i prefer to be the total combat char thats just me tho

Kyodor summed it up nicely

Personally I prefer TK over rifles, but that is all it really comes down to. Which one do you think would be more fun to play? Either way you could always drop skills if you find you don't like them and master the other of course, but I would just start with which one seems more appealing to you.

I have been a TKM/Ranger, so I can speak from experience...

it is an excellent combination...good endurance, good power output, low maintenance (as one previous post noted, buffs and armor are rarely required, unless you wanna hunt Rancor Scales)

I typically would hunt using bare fists, no armor, no buffs and powerboost only...sometimes i would get buffs is i wanted to go hunt particularly dangerous areas, like Dath or Endor, where EVERYTHING aggros you and you never have time to rest...lol...and with the healing abilities of meditation, i could camp a planet for a week like that...coming home only to sell my harvested resources and unwind in the cantina to get rid of my 600 Battle Fatigue..hehe

Also, as a Ranger, you are hunting creatures...which typically come in close to fight...and rifles just don't suit it unless you can drop the thing in 2-3 shots

TKM is also, based on all this more efficient for hunting

just my 2 credits

I think is more of a question of your style of play do u like to be the guy at range or get in close. Do you want to do more pvp. In pvp can u take ur defeats with your wins. What is your char race zabs i feel make a wonderful tkm nothing like doing sum pvp equilizing then force of willing later in the fight u can basicly fight 3 times as long as any normal person.

Also what aspects of tkm do u like the only thing u realy get in tkm at mastery is the tag which it seems everyone and there mother has right now and unarmed hit 3 which is a great but i mean if im doin liars im only usin unarmed spin 2.

Do you want to be a tank or sit back and take the pop shoots while sum1 else drops the enemy its hard for me as a tkm/fencer/swords to realy answer ur questions cuz im pure meele as u can see i love to be in peoples faces when i fight there for i went with things that i felt i could do that with. Fencer has my def Swords is my off and the tkm tag is just there cuz everyone and there mother has it and for doin missions i still think tkm drops the lairs the fastest but that is my oppion.

I think i raised more questions then answerd for you lol but w/e
