Ok, first off this isnt another thread about wanting profession specific clothing
I'm planning on starting a teras kasi temple/monastery/dojo on my server, and i'm thinking about having outfits made for everyone. A martial-arts style outfit with different colored belts or something to show rank; though im not quite sure how rank will be sorted out yet, probably with duels
Anyways, with belts screwed up as they are (they dont fit 75% of people on the server because SOE just LOVES it's static object models...), i'd have to find something that looked like it had a belt, but was really part of another peice ofclothing.
Only thing i've really found that fits this is the smock, so i'm wondering what everyone thinks of this as a TKA uniform/robes:

The smock has pretty dull colors, but black and white both work (probably a black robe and black belt for masters, white robes and colored belts for various other ranks?).
The belt can be done in basically green, purple, blue, orange, or red. Those colors are the brightest and look best, the other colors for them are a bit ugly.
Also, what colors would be suitable for what ranks? The only martial arts i've had official training in is taekwondoe, and i know the belt colors are different for various arts.
Was thinking something along the line of cooler colors being lower ranks. So blue/purple/green would be low ranks, leading up to red and orange as higher, and black at master.

I'm sat on my Master Tailor alt having a look at the mo. Other then the Smock which you have already suggested there are a couple of other options.
Wraped Skirt + Ubese Shirt
The Wraper Skirt has a full colour pallet for both the skirt its self & the belt, as far as I know the Ubese shirt also gives a full colour pallet but I'm not an Armoursmith so I can't confirm this.
I'd recomend a main colour of either personal prefference or what they specialise in, maybe base it on their second proffesion, so say red for doctors, green for rangers & so on, you could then also have special colours for certain members, saygold fortheleader & so on. Then have the belt show rank, maybe work on white, red, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, balck (just pinched that from the Karate I used to do ^_^) white been lowest Black been highest as you can probably guess.
Another option would be robes. Either the same types of robes with set colours &/or style. Either change the robes for differnt ranks, or stick with one & change the colours, or you could even have a mix of to two. Some of the robes I would recomend are the Doc Dress, the Grand Mayoral Robe, the Smock (as you said before), the Robe of Honner, the Dress Robe. For females only theres also the Long Sleeved Gown. Theres many options you could go in to with these, for example for the leaders you could have the Grandy Mayoral robe for males & the Long Sleeved Gown for females, with the right colours I think they could work well, maybe then have the Robes of honnor for you're next rank down & so on. In terms of colours geting a set main/top colour (which is limited in all but the Robe of Honnor) & then use the under/secondry colour in a similar way as I suggested with the wraped shirts & ubese shirts.
Personly though I'd recomend going for the wraped skirts with Ubese shirts, personly I think they work well for a uniform look & it's easy to show rank with them. If I have time tomorow I'll chat to an AS friend of mine & knock up some examples & post some screenshots. If you want screenshots of any of the tailor stuff just ask & I'll knock some up & post them for you.
I have to add I personly don't think the smock is very good for it, but that could just be as I hate them anyway...
I hope that gives you some ideas. It's late here so sorry if some of it doesn't make sense.

I have a problem to throw into your grand scheme...
Wookies and Ithorians... what will you do for them? Most especially because wookie clothing is limited to the barf color pallate.
Aside from that I would recommend getting away from such "RL" concepts of belts. Color ranking is going to have to stay, but you don't have to limit yourself to wearing your rank on your waist. A TK uniform colored white-base with highlight colors for ranking prehaps?

I personally prefer the decorative vest. Since TKs are priests, basically, it has more of a clerical(in the religious sense)look to it.

I'm a Sullastan and the game won't let me wear a smock. Not sure why, as Sullastans are human-shaped and I can wear pretty much any other type of clothing. Also you have to consider wookies and Ithorians.
