Thread: TK + Doc vs other combos?
The problem with commando is you will only be able to get 1 or 2 lines of the profession at most if you went master CH and the way things are going master CH will be very viable.
what do you think about TKM and Master Commando? You can actualy do it and still have 18 skills left to either get one box in medic or one box in scout. Plus you don't have to master Commando, you can just do flame thrower and then you have a lot more skill points to play with.
Interesting combination, imho. One of the greatest flaws of the Commando, is inability to defend themsevls, i.e. tank. Pets serve this function well, but there are problems with using pets: (1) they are only usefull for that function in PvE (2) if mob gets through - you die. Now, if you can defend yourself (and there is noone in the game that can do it better then TM) with combination of hige damage of Commano (not to mantion DOT of fire) this opens up interesting strategies for the character.
What do you think?
i dunno, why bother with range if you want hand2hand. Why bother with h2h if you want range. It's like mastering rifleman and pistol. Sure you can use rifle then switch to pistol when they get close, but what's the point?
If you truely want a pve monster killer try this;
Master ch/commando 0-0-4-0/novice medic
And if you are imp then you can add 3 at-st with your 2-3 pets. Nothing will be unkillable for you minus heat resist mobs. Those wouldn't be so bad with 3 tanks and 3 at-sts or your launcher pistol. You can still bleed the enemy from all 3 pools (master marksman). Can use stim Bs, although you'd take some time to heal big pets. You'll be rolling in credits anyways, since you can solo krayts for tissues, force sensitives for holocrons etc etc.
Now if you want something more fun, you can go master tka/doc. Or my currentbuild, master tka/master brawler/0-4-3-0 doc. I can solo ancient bull rancors. Or even master tka/ ch. But i think the fastest killing tka is my current template, with the least amount of damage done to myself. That is just my opinion. Play what you want.
The current idea I'm kicking around is TK/Combat Medic.
TKs need to heal themselves and need Terrain Negotiation; Combat Medic can get them that. TKs also desperately need ranged attacks; Combat Medics definitely have someuseful ones. Finally, the abilities and defensive bonuses from the Ranged Support Track are handy for someone in melee.
Or, viewing it from the other side, a Combat Medic sure feels a lot safer out there when he/she can mix it up in melee. Also Meditation 4 will be extremely useful when Combat Medics get the ability to heal Mind damage in exchange for Mind wounds.
The trick is that it takes 261 skill points to master both of those professions. Curses!

Doesn't work well. I have an MCM that I was playing with getting TK (currently novice TK), and with the ranged requirements for MCM, plus master medic, it just doesn't leave enough points to be effective. If you're only going for 0004 CM, then it might be worth it, but your range and speed will suck. I'm going to switch him to MCM/carbine.
My other character, however, will be going TKM/0440 Commando (already 0340) and I am -very- pleased with the combo. It's a good mix of ranged-damage-pumpage with the ability to turn around drop kick them toe-to-toe. Pop a mob to get all the bafs running at you, flamecone, then switch to knucklers and go to town.
The only catch is that you do -not- want to be hit by a large anything while holding your FT. Until the new patch, that 2.5x modifier is a killer when you're getting mob'd by pickets. However, I did just discover that FT speed makes a huge difference on the cooldown after specials. My previous 4.9 FT left me waiting for about 10 seconds (can't do anything, just like panicshot'ing yourself), while my new 3.x one almost seems rapid fire.

I'm looking for a profession combo that doesn't take a year to grind out, but is very effective for hunting holocrons.
I'm thinking about TK + Doc as I'm already a Master Doctor. How do you guys thing that combo would compare to something like Master TK + Master CH + Medic? Or Master CH + Commando?
Commando/master ch.... They are namely the best in killing just boutanything inpve, they can solo krayts if they are smart. If you just want pve then commando/ch is the way to go. You don't even have to master commando, just do flamethrower.
I'm one box short of master Doc but I am already a TKM. I absolutely love this template. I can solo just about any pve mob without armor. With buffs and powerboost my health and action push around 3500-4000 and my mind is 1500. Throw in a dancer buff and your looking at at least 3k in all three stats. Thats a very hard target to take down. The only problems I really run into in pvp is the kiters. If I miss a lunge or someone gets a ranged KD on me then I'm in for a long ride. I use a 80% composite helmet and chest piece so it helps outlast the long kiting runs.
I have toyed with the idea of of dropping doc to 0 4 3 0 so I can still buy packs and buff when I need. With the extra points I'd either pick up dirty fighting for panic shot and low blow or the finesse tree in swordsman for the nasty mind bleed. You stick that thing on someone and see how long they can kite you!
All in all though TKM/Doc is a very good combo and the most fun I've tried by far. If your big into pvp then you might want to switch a few things around for a bit of range when you cant seem to get your target on the ground.

Master Doctor / Teras Kasi Master is quite effective in PvE and good for PvP if you can manage to close with your opponent.
I have managed with this combination to solo Enrage Rancors, Bull Rancors, 2-3 Rancors are once, several Kimos, Giant Kimos and some of the minor Kryat dragons (julevs). With a good set of buffs (includes Dancer buff) you stand a good chance vs. most anything the game can throw at you with the proper tactics.
Many people believe this combination is too uber and should be nerf, most fail to realize that I am Master in both professions not dabbler. Does not Mastery of ones profession allow one to do things a dabbler cannot?
Master Doctor / Master Swordmans is another good combination to consider.
How bout in terms of making money from missions? I know creature handlers after grouping with their critters at the mission terminal can make a whole load of cash.
What's the payout on the missions a TK + Doc can take?
