Teras Kasi Archive
Thread: Help settle a debate
I semi-role play and I use spices constantly.
It is all listed in my Bio as well. My character is the **edit** son of a Mos Espa spice head. He was born addicted to Muon Gold. He has chosen the path of the Teras Kasi in hopes of mastering his body and mind and stopping his addictions.
I depends of the way in which you see your character.
For example:
A charachter could become an adict for many reasons. After all they are only human or em......alien.
An evil TKA might use it to enhance his abilities.
Others might not see it as a drug. After all medicines are drugs, it just that they are legal.
You could be a spice TKA (much like a Drunken MAster).
The truth is that many monks throughouttheworld use substances or alcohol that might be illegal in countries like the USA. It depends on how you see it and the way you want to play. Recently I have a friend that went to Indonesia and china, and he said he did some mayor partying with monks. LOL!
Sometimes other cultures use substances to expand their minds. I cannot be the judge of what is right or wrong. If the society we live in says it is wrong and there ar laws that say it is wrong, then I support them and back them up.So it depends on how you look at things.!
Hope this helped a little.
I do not think that a Teras Kasi Artist would use use doctor buffs, spices, or special chef foods (unless the food was a traditional part of their diet, as taught by their master). I also don't think they would involve themselves in the galactic civil war, as the mastery of self is, well, a selfish art. As the ents would say .. I am not on anyone's side, because nobody is on my side.
Then again I don't know of any modern martial arts that are learned through beating up the local wildlife.
But back to your question, I agree that spices go against their philosophy, but I do not agree that doctor buffs would be acceptable. The government (controlling substances) does not dictate what is pure. I think the distinction of 'spice' as an illegal substance should not be the deciding factor as to wether it is against TKA philosophy, but rather if it is a substitute for mental or physical perfection.
Guys!! Dont start getting all high and mighty!
Drugs and religion have been going hand in hand for mellinium!
The American Indian, and South American Indian Medicine Menuse various hallucinagens to increase their "visions", Asian monks would be known to use opium to relax their minds and facilitate their meditations. And there was even a documented occasion where The Pope (I dont remember exactly which one, circa 1900) would always have an elixir under his robe. This elixir was nothing more than cocaine and water!
Although personally I've only used Pixie once, ( and the downer hit right in the middle of a fight) I see no reason whyany TK should be against spices. True we use our minds and bodies different than anyone else in the game. However, the practice of "religion" whether it be in some supernatural being, or self awareness, spices are simply tools to be used to make you sounder of mind(Muon Gold) or body (Neutron Pixie).
Not every "monk" in into the "My body is a temple" mode of thought.
Just my 2c ![]()
Bah! Forgot one more thing
The European Monks also created just about every kind of alcoholic beverage we know!!
Wine, beer, Cognac, brandy, Champagne, just to name a few. If these cant be considered "spices" I dont know what is ![]()
Wasn't bruce lee a total speed freak?
Just something to think about. I think it's personal.
