Thread: TKA weapons

Hey guys, I just had this thought and I think its pretty doable, prehaps in the combat rebalance or sometime down the road. Right now as it stands, we have 1 weapons, beside our fist that is. Most people will agree that Martial Artist use a wide variety of weapons, staffs, nun-chucks, sais, batons and probably more that I am not aware of. My proposal is that we allow these weapons to be incorperated into the game. Now, I won't get greedy and ask for any new damamge types. Just these new weapons. A weapon is a mark of character, a way to distinguish TKAs and make them unique. All of these weapons should migrate nicely in the TKA theme. They should be able to be made by weaponsmiths with roughly the same amount of rescources as our current Vibro Knucklers, with of course small differences here and there. Equipping each waepon could trigger the game to show different animations for attacks. I'm not suggesting that we should get all the fencer/swordsman/pikeman animations, that wouldn't be fair to them. But maybe a few of them as well as some unique ones. These new weapons could be certified at the Novice level just like the VKs or spread out, it doesn't make a real difference to me, as I am and plan on being a TKM for a long while. These weapons would have the same speeds and damages and AP and wound chances and everything as a VK does, meaning that the only real difference it would create is more customablity and become more visually appealing to be a TKA.

This all seems very doable to me, and a nice thing to spruce up our profession.


And one more thing...implement some new color of ribbons and somehow let us choose, this seems so easy to do and it hasn't been done.

1. TKA is supposed to be the UNARMED brawler profession. If you want other weapons, try Fencer, Swordsman or Pikeman

2. The devs would never dedicate this much time to one profession for what is essentially (according to your suggestion)just change in visuals.

Yeah you are right, TKA is SUPPOSED to be UNARMED...but we all know, we aren't unarmed, VKs are nearly a must in some situations and almost all TKAs that I see, do use them. Obviously the DEVs don't care too much about keeping the only unarmed class unarmed. Granted you are right, ew have unarmed XP and all that, but...we are armed. It's a pickle, no doubt about it. And I have no real desire to become any other brawler class, just looking to enhance our own, as are all the other professions.

Technically even a person without weapons is armed with his hands and fists. Unarmed combat is an oxymoron and can't be taken literally.

However, a VK isn't really a proper weapon, all it does is increase the damage from your fist (and that's a fact both in how it looks and in how the numbers work). You're still punching and kicking the same way. It would be like adding a spike to the back of an axe and saying the spike is a seperate weapon than the axe. No, it's part of the axe.

Anyways, as others said, TKA is not the place for weapons like nunchaku or staves, etc. ALL melee professions are martial arts. A fencer is a martial artist who uses a sword or baton, a pikeman is a martial artist who uses a staff or spear, etc.

When they introduce specialization beyond the master level for the elite professions (and I believe they will within the next year) I can see a variety of traditional martial arts weapons being added, if not just for TK than other professions as well, like, kama, or nunchuku, or those arm thing..I forget what they are called, police use them, perhaps also vibro-singham for ap2, if not the razor knuckler.

None of those weapons will work and I'll tell you why.

Every profession has a single set of animations for all of its moves. Note when you swing a stun baton, dagger, or curved sword it's all the same. Same for swinging a staff or a vibro lance, or swinging an axe or a power hammer.

If you want new TKA weapons you need a weapon that could be used while punching and kicking. Shock gloves (boxing gloves with stun damage, from the old WEG Star Wars RPG), Katar (Indian/Iranian punching dagger), Bagh Nakh (Indian tiger claws), Brass Knuckles (think VK without the blade), Sap Gloves (gloves with powdered lead in the knuckles and fingers), Cesti (a pair of spiked gloves common among gladiators)...

You get the idea. It would have to be something that wouldn't require a change in animation. I've listed many different ideas that could work. I'm not sure we really need them though.

181stWC, Tonfas I assume you are talking about, that wouldnt be a bad idea its not far off VK really.

The ribbons idea is good alright, even better if the colour was dictated by the weapon.

I think they should give us more of a variaty of knuckles instead of just the one VK. like brass knuckles made of different matterials for different damage and like all the weapons the guy above me said.

I was just wondering (being new to the TKA profession) if there are any weapons i could use that still count as unarmed (sounds weird but i still need unarmed experience, i just want to put out more damage) any suggestions?

They are (for the most part) listed under MELEE weapons in the bazaar.
