Thread: What happened to TKA?

I was a TKM, and I quit the game in about march 2004, and just returned yesterday. What exactly happened to the prof? "Advanced Combo" which I guess is the equivelant of unarmedhit3, (or 4, whichever you used to get at master) does about 250 damage......it used to do around 2000+ without VKs if I remember correctly. Now, it's on a timer, and my guy does nothing in between the hit,....just stands there and waits 10 seconds then does that weak little attack. The first mission I took from AH was a mutant womp rat lair, which was the highest paying mission I could get..... A mob that used to could kill in 1 hit, now takes forever. I think it's "level" was 15,....Im wondering just how a TKM is supposed to kill something his own level.
So, is there something that I don't understand and am doing wrong? Or should I just pick another profession?

Even though an attack has a delay timer, that is just a timer on THAT move you can do other moves while you wait to do that one again. I would just mess around with the combat changes in general to get used to them. Changin profs wont help, they all use the same combat system.

TK is now a tank. It really starts to shine when you take on mobs equal or +/- 2 levels, when you can survive for a long time.
Mobs are now determined more by their "CL" - Combat Level, rather than the type of mob. Now, Pikets, for example, aren't all the same strength.
Advanced Combo is currently (visually) broken. Triple the damage in the Combat Spam, and that's the real damage.
Hint: Use Center of Being. It's TK's lifeline.

LoL This is a Funny observation related to the Light Saber fights and CU.
Pre-CU = Episode 1,2, and3 LightSaber Battles
Post-CU = Episode 4,5, and6 Light Saber Battles.
Go watch them and you will see what I mean.

You're right about the tone of the CU relative to the movies. It's definitely true that melee combat looked more like Ep. 1-3 before, and looks more like Ep. 4-6 now.

TKM is more of a support professtion than a stand alone profession. Goes best with Swords or Fencer. (I am Master Brawler, Master TK, Master swords, Fencer 4400, Enhanced reflexes 4200) I can solo just about anything with ease.

TKM is merely a tanker, without big damage dealing abilities.
but don't let the figures u see from advanced combo hit fool u. its a bug in the combat log and damage display. if u check the healthbar of your target u will see that an advanced combohit does more damage then stated. in my tests the combat log tells me i do 250 damage, when i did 1200 damage to the healthbar of my target.

People seem to have addressed your probable thoughts so I'll just add a generalisation.

There is something you don't understand - the game. I'm not flaming. The CU has changed this into a new game from the one you remember. You'll just have to do the same as the rest of us I'm afraid. Forget everything you knew and learn a new game.
(No, there aren't any official docs...)

do you say that adv combo triple the damage???
i haven´t seen that.Actually, i´ve tried all the atacks and there is little difference between them, and the ones with less damage are the dizzy atack and the adv. combo atack?
will i be doing anything wrong???

its a bug in the damage display for adv. combo hit (in combat log and over head damage display). just set off default attack and target a mob and check the health bar (moving the mouse over the bar displays the value). then hit it with adv combo hit. look at the combat chat tab and check the health bar of the target again. when i have done this the combat chat stated i did 250-300 damage, according to the health bar i reduced it by 1000-1200 pts.
