I believe someone put this quite well so I'll reiterate it here:

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIX THIS!? I'm standing ON the mob, he can hit me, but I can't hit him, this nonsense has got to stop. Fix running attacks. Especially now with the knockdown nerf, we have got to be able to hit a running target, SO FIX IT! PLEASE!

/angry off

This really does need to be addressed, it's been an issue long enough and it's about time the devs get this fixed. As things stand the melee class is dead meat in pvp now because a kiting marksman can keep running and shooting while we chase them helplessly, even when we should be in range for our standard attacks, because of the running attack issue and our inability to keep a player knocked down long enough to deal significant damage.

The fact that this issue continues with attacking mobs as well is also frustrating, I've already had several occassions today where I was unable to kill a fleeing mob before it could run into a nest of it's kin, only because I couldn't hit the mob while running. Another time I died chasing a fleeing mob because I couldn't hit him but he was able to hit me. Please, this has got to stop, it's gone on long enough, FIX IT.

/agree

My Pistoleer friend and I did some tests last night to see how melee vs. ranged would play out now...

He kited the hell out of me.

Target out of range...

etc.. even when I caught up to him.

Sadly I think this is due to lag. I don't think our avatars are where we think they are. The only solution I see is increasing range of melee attacks. It's a lame solution, but how else can this issue be fixed???

I also run into the issue with mobs...to compensate I have to run ahead of the fleeing mob, stop, and start attacking while trying to do a staggered step pace to coax my character into attacking. When knockdown still worked effectively this wasn't as much of a problem, but now with these outrageous ham costs, timers, etc, it's becoming just about impossible to play efficiently anymore as a melee. We have to do too much on the side to try to counter the issues brought on by lag, bugs, and just flat out dev stubborness. If I'm being hit by a creature in melee, doesn't it makes sense that I would be able to hit them back?

The best way to fix this has already been suggested...a /stick command. If you get into melee range with anyone/anything, you should be able to /stick them, and at that point just automatically assume the melee player is in range as long as the command is on. If at anytime the melee player moves on their own or switches targets, remove the /stick status. We should always be able to remain in range once we get there. If something turns tail and starts running assume that the melee player begins doing things to remain in range...ie: leg hits, sweeps, etc. If someone is running their back is wide open to being hit so I can't imagine this would be too difficult.

Blah, that's enough outta me, I tired and I don't wanna think about it anymore. I'm gonna go play soul caliber 2...

I'm new to the forums, but not to the game (almost master TK)...

To me it makes sense that if we are melee fighters our target might get out of range by running (in reality that's what would happend), but we are playing... meaning reality doesn't have a place here....

So: I think we have invested tons of time in a profession not as well rewarded in XP as some others, to become the ultimate melee fighting machine, with fighting moves, specials and capabilities (regardless of nerfing or not)far beyond the reach of other clases (professions), right?

Ok devs answer this, if what I just said is true, then why would you offer a profession that represent so much sacrifice, not only in time to achieve but in negating skill points to other stuff if it's useless, when our target is moving away from us.

As I said there's a line between reality and gameplane, but as a loyal player I would apreciate some review in this subject.

I don't get it?? I don't have this problem! Grr this is so frustrating I can't figure out what people are talking about... I run after mobs and when I am indeed within 5m I attack, I can style on the run, I frequenly use unarmed hit 2 while running after a mob or person....

I'm so confused...

Selwynn, mostly i believe this is also a server side lag issue. The server it showing on my screen the person/thing is in one place, when in fact it is actually a few meters ahead of what i'm seeing.

In the wild i do not have this problem.... in Theed... well... lets just say i compinsate by runing infront of people. Not easy as humans are much harder to pretict than NPC's, but it does work. We just shouldn't have too.

If you agree with this post, please read this one. It's the same sentiment but it fell off. Five star post, just a little lengthy.

I won't even try killing Merlklocs..spelling..anymore with friends. Every time I close to a distance to hit them they back up to 8m and continue to pound me while I get spammed with OOR messages. So the big mobs I have trouble with. Any ideas I can try?

As a blackbelt I will admit that a man with a gun would waste me at range. Even a couple yards or meters. But if you get within one yardI can disarm your gun and snap your neck. Part of my trainning is to realize what that range is and to know if I am inside it. At this point I can honestly say that at 3 feet I can take out a guy with a gun probally 95+ % of the time. ( still room for improvement ) but I am not a master. This is assuming of course that the man holding the gun is not also a blackbelt or a good street fighter. The whole reason for this is once you get close you CONTROL THE WEAPON! You do not let go of the arm with the gun until a) the man is dead b) the man is unconsious c) you broke the arm, shoulder, hand and even fingers to make sure that gun is on the floor and out of the mans hand. During my trainning with wooden guns and rubber knives I "died" more than a few times to say the least. But now I am confident enought to deal with a real life gun if threatened at close range. Last I have no ablity to use the "Force" the tka is supposed to tap into the force on a small level.

I have seen this to be worse when the server is busy at peak times so the lag exagerates it.

I do get this in higher frequencies withsome creatures like snakes that get part fo their body trapped below ground while moving at you. Some other small critters (physically small in game)also do this when they appraoch atangels ofa hill. That may be a clipping, terrain zone issue but I'm not sure. I'm mentioning it so you guys can keep a look out and see if it is so. Maybe it is a bug that needs to be fixed for everyone or a combination of both the server side lag and a bug?

I have not failed. Ive just found ten thousand ways that wont work.

The big creatures seem to have a built in desire to stay at their max melee range, I have major problems with this when fighting fambaas (especially since fambaas aren't exactly pushovers). The only thing I've been able to do to guarentee that I keep hitting is take off the knuckler (which brings us back to the stupid range issue with the knucklers). Since unarmed range is higher than knuckler range, for god knows what reason, you should still be able to connect with the creature. To compensate for the lack of a knuckler all I can say is...start spamming unarmed hits. That's about it, or go pistoleer
