Thread: How can I keep Aggro on my pets? Dying way too often.
I'm having a problem everyone...I'm a low level TKA (0-1-1-3) and Master Creature Handler. My usual method of attack is to send in my pets, then walk up and start beating on the mob myself. However, it never fails that within 2-3 seconds of me starting my own attack, the mob forgets about my pets and goes after me until I'm slain (or at least incapped).
This is making for some very frustrating hunts. At least when I was a Carbineer, I could usually keep aggro off of me by running away until my pet hit the mob again and got it's attention. Now, it's like animals are specifically targetting me and ignoring my pets which have much higher ham and are probably doing more damage as well.
Am I just doing something wrong here? Are there any ways to avoid this, or is it just "too bad, that's the way it is."
Keep an eye on your range. If you are using knuckles stand at 5m, if not 15 meter (Max range for your preferred style) The pet will be closer than you. The mob will consentrate on your pet.
Inherent dangers of going TKA IMHO.....
I'd suggest getting a pistol and getting at least ranged support II..
So when you want to get the aggro off your tail just blast threaten shot here and there... and the critter goes running the other way, (hopefully in the arms of your loving GM).
I don't use pets, but I use that special plenty for getting the aggro off of me.
If you can land a lunge or kd too that would rule... ![]()
Same thing happens to me, so I stopped using pets and only group with other players. If they wanna use pets fine.
But I find that the best way to not die, is have your Secondary stats and Mind maxed or close to it and then get Doc, Musician, and Dancer buffs. The dancer and musician buffs double your Mind, Focus, and Willpower, but do it for a shorter duration than the Doc buffs(not sure if listening longer will enhance the duration) so get these last after the doc buffs. And then I havea nice suit of Advanced Composite armor for that halved dmg plus the resists if thye break through the AR1.
Mobs have an agro range, once you enter it if you hit them they will attack you not the pet. The agro range is based on the size of the creature, as its based on the nearest corner of the creature not the range shown.
Examaple > Bol agro range 6.5 i can hit at that range and hit all day without ever taking agro from my pet, but if i enter dead on 6, after 2 hits creautre will agro me. The small types of creature such as a hurton stalker (sp?) have range of about 3.7.
The best way is send pet then move within 7 for large creatures, 4 for smaler, then try an attack if attack out of range move 1 > 2 steps and try again once you hit, stay at that range. I almost never draw agro from my creature unless he starts doing the moonwalk
, steping backward towards me causing me to be inside the creatures agro range.
If you do get agro best thing is warning shot with a pistol, or suppresion fire if you have it allowing your pet to reagro the creature.
To be honest thou its not nearly as fun to hide behind a pet, instead of soloing the creature with just you self, even if i am a master ch, aspiering master tka
. This style may change with the ch balance thou as i hear pets wont hold agro as well as they do.
My "opinion" is stop using your pets to do the work for you. Take the hits that come to you and if you can't take it...stop fighting that creature cause you're not strong enough yet.
it helps me out big time.

You need to fight from max melee range. Start out from out of range and creep forward until you're hitting. That's your max range and usually the mob will not aggro you. Keep in mind that knucklers reduce your range significantly, and you will often end up within aggro range when fighting with knucklers. Asa general rule of thumb, I use 5-6m for small/med mobs/NPC and 7-8m for large mobs.

just get a nice set of 70% kinetic advanced ubese armor, keep what your fighting intimated and you shouldn't need pets at all. even at novice tka i could take on 2 defilers at once without a problem
Totally agree, ryye. Glad there's still a few of us who don't need pets to fight things.
Never worried about using a pet to help me out, even from novice brawler. It's not needed if you learn how to fight properly
