Hello, its me again. Yeah for once I'm not complaining, so bear with me
I just made 1/2/1/0 in tailor and am finding now that I'm semi-rich (made 600k offAP grinding) , vendors are getting even MORE boring then they were. I usually kept a 75-100 item stock, with about 100 items I was to lazy to restock. But now I have more boxes, and more clothing to put in, (I severely overstocked and had about 200 itemsin itat field 1 and never really put new ones in) and I'm thinking I could prolly make a decent profit by destroying my vendor, swallowing the clothing loss, because there was no way I'm gonna retireve all that stuff, putting up a bio engineer vendor and a giant sign saying, ALL CLOTHING ORDERS MUST BE DONE THOUGH CUSTOM ORDER. Maybe its different for you guys, but its boring for me to look at me emails and think yay, I made 900 dollars. I guess you know what I mean, I'm just babbling. But anyway my real question is, at my current level, is this possible? Thanks for listening to my incorherant babbling, btw

don't worry, reading this is more fun than working
you can try slowing moving your stock on your vendor onto the coronet bazaar to minimize loss.
I did lots of custom orders for a while, and got tired of dealing with some of the "less bright" or "less polite", so I went onto a different server but kept my vendors (barely) stocked. I try to do a large restock at least once in a while, and now I've settled with mostly vendor sales but a few custom orders when folks can catch me online.
if it makes you happier go for it

I have been a tailor since day one in SWG. I can honestly say that I really do not like doing custom orders (I used to do them all the time). Last night is a perfect example: someone sent me a tell for a couple of items, well I had to leave in like 1/2 hour by the time they changed characters and got to TB... I had to leave. Last night when I logged back in, I was having fun with a jedi knight and went to the village, so I kind of blew this person off again (not intentionally) because I was having fun.
For me I don't really like doing custom orders because it can be very time consuming and you work on demand of your clients. I prefer my vendors because I can restock when I have time and also if I am running low on stock I can just put a note in my shop saying, "yeah I am low on stock check back in 2 days" or something like that.
I even had custom orders in my email for weeks but just couldn't get to it! I usually apologize and then either make the item orthey already hadsomeone else make it, which is fine.
I had to take back my game time!
Once I did that, the game became more fun and less of a demand on my time. If that makes any sense.

I am on the other side of the coin here... Perhaps because I used to be a tailor on my main, but now have a second acct that is the Tailor. But, I now do almost all custom orders, I actually prefer it that way... But it is not a big money maker. I actually will only do maybe 2 or 3 orders a week lately (not counting guildies and other people that just need a quick item here and there). But I really do not like having a lot of stock in a vendor, I can get away with this because I am not a well known tailor on my server.
If I ever want to drum up custom order business all I really have to do is put up my tailor tag and wander around to various populated places shopping bazaars or vendors... Generally I'll get 2 or 3 tells with some sort of request in a short time.
To me this is the diversion as opposedto otherpoints of view, where you spend an incredible ammount of time crafting to stock the vendor and the custom orders pile up... and you just want to get out of the shop and shoot a durni(I have been there and know how it is)
having a vendor based business or a custom based business are both very valid... I would suggest trying both and then deciding what you prefer.

Another fine point Pappi
... I guess it all depends on how you play your tailor, and that there is no wrong way to go about it so long as you are having fun.
Well, the wrong thing to do would be to tell somebody... "I am afraid I cannot do anything for you, that white underwear looks great!"
*edited for terrible spelling (sigh... it's late)*

heh, my mayor/dancer is now my main (on a different server), so I got the "people interaction" part down... usually when I escape to my tailor I just want to hide

I have moved over to almost exclusively custom orders. Honestly, I just couldn't take the vendor stocking thing... I never found a way to enjoy myself sitting for hours in front of a vendor just popping stuff on it. Since I tend to hang out in cantinas and with a bunch of friends anyways, I usually just keep my dancer title up and let the few people recommending me bring in the orders.

I love tailor now

For the most part I'm not a fan of custom orders. I don't mind my friends that let me dress them up, or people that are laid back and willing to trust my instincts. When a customerstarts to get real picky with the exact color, sockets, and/or want factory crates, I just feel the headaches coming on. I much prefer my vendors.I can ignore them for a few days and not feel bad. Recently I've been letting everything go, sometimes I need to just give the vendors a break. I'vealso receiveda string of orders for specific colors (making me count rows and adjust my screen to try to figure out what they are talking about), orders for4 sockets, factory crates, and people that didn't really know what they were talking about. It's enough to make me want topull myhair out!

ugh, granny panties and sports bra. like, hello?!? walking around in them is NOT sexy.
I used to love tailor for the custom orders, but I guess the combination of continuous stocking, 7 day selling cycles, and the idiots finally got to me
p.s.: I agree, there's no wrong way to play a tailor as long as you are courteous and having fun
