My Fellow Tailors -
I was hoping to tap the more creative members of our profession for some advice. I am a Master Tailor myself, but I tend to specialize in combat oriented bio-enhanced clothing (as in black clothing selections from the Field Wear line). I have found myself in the rather unusual position of attending a formal gathering on Intrepid and needing a good formal wear costume for the event. It seems I have been nominated for Man of the Year for the server, and being a tailor I wanted to show up representing our profession dressed appropriately.
So my question to you all is if you were to dress a male human for such a gathering, what would you suggest for that immaculately tailored, red carpet event look?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I would go with something Imperialish. A black, long formal jacket, dress slacks and uniform boots. I know it's they way of the evil, but it looks good.

I've always liked this formal look for men:
Suit Shirt (White with whatever color suits your fancy for the collar, cuffsand tie)
Black Comfortable Pants
Black Gunmans Duster
Black Men's Dress Shoes
It's dressy with a bit of a rogueish flair.

Hm. The Imperial uniform is indeed a good formal look, but as the leader of a Rebel guild it would be inappropriate.

Interesting idea. Do you think white gloves and a Reinforced Combat Staff as a cane would be too over the top?

Have you considered the dress uniform jacket (it has a chestplate and looks like a roman general)? How about the pilot's jacket with a suit shirt underneath - looks very tux-y.
If you want to wear dress shoes, go with comfortable slacks, they don't have ankle issues. However, be aware that comfortable slacks do have a "darker" belt, so they may look strange in white, depending on what you are wearing.
If you want to wear boots, then you should wear dress slacks. They don't have a belt, but do have ankle issues.
All black striped slacks can look like a tux because of the "ribbon" down the side. They do not have ankle issues or belt issues.
EDIT: nothing says you can't wear a robe. A robe of honor would look good. Also, nothing prevents you from wearing a skirt instead of pants. With some outfits it looks really cool. A thin pleated skirt with the dress uniform jacket has a very "roman gladiator" look about it which is a little unconventional but cute.

I assume I'll be at the same event Acroyear, but I was working on my uniform last night and having trouble too. I almost always go with the same things. But they work well for a formal attire. Depending on colors some items work better together than others.
Sidebuttoned shirt
Striped slacks/pants
Casual/formal shoes
Gunman's/pilots/cold weather jacket
But, I may end up going very simple indeed, A Smock... It always looks classy. and is very, very simple. Another thing I am toying with is a rennisance look, need to find the right jacket/vest but the leather trim shirt some comfortable slacks and a nice shiney pair of boots should do the trick.

Could play up the tailoring look as well..
I always thought Belted vest was very craftsprofession like,
Dress shoes, comfortable slacks, suit shirt, belted vest...
Could of course be styling in a Dress robe,
very rich colors there, smoking jacket style on a man ( hey Hef can strut one so can you)
Another look I like ( I think especially since it sure wont be over done) is
wrinkled pants,trimlined shirt, decorative vest...
pants and base of vest in one color, sash and shirt in another.
After doing weddings and partys and all the things we do special,
I still think (just as in life) wear what YOU want something you like and are comfortable in.

You know, I didn't think of that.

Thank you all for the fine suggestions. I have begun trying them all just to see what suits me best. I really do appreciate the suggestions though. It is awkward enough attending this function, it would have been worse to show up looking like I couldn't even dress myself.
For the record, my RL wife (who I can never seem to talk into trying SWG) seems to be partial to the Gunman's Duster/Suit Shirt/Comfortable Slacks/Dress Shoes look thus far. I did option it out with the gloves and cane, and the pure white gloves invoked too much of a traffic cop look, so I went down a few shades to a light gray and it seemed to work better.
I'll get to more of those suggestions later tonight, thanks again!

As an alternative to the Gunman's Duster, also consider a black Reinforced Jacket. The bold edges frame the suit shirt nicely and the bottom stops right at the waist line.
