Thread: Socket Questions( didn't see this answered by Mira )
First just to confirm, 4 sockets are the max?
Yep.
If I have a 4 socket item, the 4 highest numbers stick?
I believe so.
If I only have 3 sockets only the 3 highest numbers stick?
I believe so.
I'm never really did pay much attention to sockets myself, but from reading around here, I'm pretty sure those are correct.
Ok here is the basics:
4 is the max # of sockets any one item can have
the amount of sockets a item is crafted with is random
The mods on SEAs will stick by highest first,
then alphabetically for any same numbered skill
All mods will now take up one socket individually
So a SEA with +3 blue +5 green +3 red
drop into a 4 socket itwillhave +3 blue/+5green/+3red and 1 socket
drop into a 3 socket it will have +3 blue/+5green/+3red
drop into a 2 socket it will have +3blue/+5green
drop into a 1 socket it will have +5green

No.
Clothing can have between 0 and 4 sockets, which is almost entirely random, though the skill of the tailor and her skill tapes can offset that. Dropping in any tape to these items will take up a single socket. The remaining sockets will accept any other tapes you wish to place in them.
All clothing items have a maximum of 6 skills that can be placed on them. If you have a 4 socket item, then you can drop in 2 tapes with 3 skills each, and all the skills will add on. But the remaining 2 sockets are unavailable to you. Certainly, you could drop in more tapes, but the only purpose would be to increase the mods that are currently on an item. Trying to add a 7th mod will waste a socket and end up with no new mod.

That is almost right but they changed things a bit with the CU since they changed how skilltapes work. Now if you have a skilltape with three mods listed on it and you drop it onto a piece of clothing with at least three sockets, all three skillmods will stick but it will take up three of those sockets. Any skillmods that are negative are ignored and do not use a socket (or stick to the clothing). I *think* that if something has more skillmods than you have sockets the highest ones stick.
Anyway, because of the new skilltape changes I would love to have the maximum number of sockets increased to 6 (since it makes sense to do that now), but I don't want to ask for anything right now that would distract from the message that our bugs need to be fixed.
Correct Gyopi, each mod now takes one socket, mods apply highest to lowest then alph for any same number.
very very easy to understand now, very very annoying to try and get folks to understand this is how it is now.

If someone wanted to write up a guide, I'd throw it in the FAQ, the customer FAQ, and the main directory above... When I did the revisions, it was unclear how things worked post-CU so I left those aspects "as is."
Hint, hint.

I want to thank all of you for your help, I think I understand now. I like to be an informed buyer and you have made this happen.
