About three days ago I finally got through the domestic tree and begon my little tailoring life. In anticipation of all the cool stuff I dragged out my clothing make tool only to find out that I can make...ehm...yeah...nothing cool...ok I do understand, most neat stuff is in the 'higher' levels but how to get there? Grinding ribbed shirts? No thanks, I dont pay to just do clickety click a bazillion times. Just forget the levels and make what I can? Tried that and only things I can make that people want are black suites (yay..) and the sleeveless dresses that I've made for everyone already. Besides that, there are a few master tailors here and an large amount of other novice tailors and they all say: just grind through it...What to do now? Run delivery missions for what...hours..till I can pay for an factory to do the grinding?

Only good thing about becoming a tailor is that I became so bored with it that I picked up entertainer and liked that...now I am spending most of my time in the cantina dreaming of my would be tailor job. *sobs*

Not sure what you want to get that you call "cool" at novice. There are a lot of items that people want at that level. Use your imagination a bit. There are robes, smocks, military backpacks, jackets, belts, pants and all other sorts of things that you can make and sell for enough to make a profit. You could also look around for an armorsmith in your area and see if he has a supplier for the synthetic cloth. That is how I made my cash at first and even tho they don't give a ton of exp, if you make enough of them it all adds up. I made up different combinations of clothing into outfits/uniforms, same colors etc and noted the color at the end, ie Large Pocket Pants (brown). That way someone looking can see what color they are without having to actually examine each one and find what they want faster. You could also put your name at the front so when someone is looking for something made by you, he can just look for items that start with your name. I started doing this a few days ago. Takes a bit longer than just clicking but it gets your name seen and repeat customers. When I was novice, I would go thru my list making one of everything and putting it on the bazaar and replace what sold fastest with a few more of the same. I didn't do any grinding until I got close to my first box and wanted to finish it out. I haven't done any grinding since, just making clothes to sell and cloth and panels for armorsmiths. I now have all of field wear and am on casual wear 2, going to 3. I usually stay so busy making things that I don't have time to worry about grinding. Enjoy what you can do or else give it up. It is not supposed to be easy or a free ride. Being a tailor probably is harder than some of the other professions who just make their item and put it up and it sells. We have to spend more time considering colors, what item etc and if you are working ona custom order by request, it can take some time to get it right. I does pay off with repeats but it is a bit more stressful than just making a rifle or a set of armor and selling it to whoever.

My suggestion: get ahold of a wearables factory ASAP. You will be amazed at how fast A) you can/will go thru Synthetic Cloth and B) making a 100-unit run of said cloth gets you a good amount of xp in a useful and non-tedious way. That way you can concentrate on growing your business and clientelle without developing carpal tunnel syndrone.

Also, if you *must* do it, a 100-unit run of Ribbed Shirts will net you somewhere in the neighborhood of 14000xp (I *think* - maybe someone can confirm this). However, I wouldn't do this just for the simple reason that you will be throwing away resources that can be better used and you'll never sell more than a fraction of them.

Yeah, wearables factories are great. Personally, even if I could do nothing else with them, I'd like having the crated stuff just because I can avoid the "Oh, crap, she wants a Sleeveless dress, now I gotta make 3 synth cloth panels, 1 Metal Fastener... and have I run out of metal?" factor....

I agree wholeheartedly. Do not grind. I am a Master Artisan and Novice Tailor as well. I make quite a nice living on Travel and Military Packs. I also make WookieeWear outfits that match in color (no small featI can tell you.) Just find something you like to make and it will come. I got almost halfway to Fieldwear 1 yesterday just making items to stock my shopand bazaar plus a few special requests. MilPaks give 100 tailoring xp per and sleeveless dresses give 272. Experiment a bit and you will be there in no time.

Also a trickI use is whenI sell an item in the bazaarI put the waypoint to my shop in the description. This has worked wonders for repeat business.

I use this naming convention: Item Name, Color [Name or Company]. I use the schematic name for Item Name because if someone is looking for a Smock, they will scroll down to S. Here is an example:

Smock, Medical Green [RavaGear] or

Sleveless Dress, Plum [Rava G'Lok]

One last piece of advice. If you have any harvesters always sell half your harvest. I make good money selling aluminum, steel, ore, etc on the bazaar.I sell it in 500 unit lots for 2000 cr. Since most resources cost less than a credit per unit to harvest. 4 cr per unit is an awesome profit margin as well as being low enough to sell quickly. The only thingI do not sell is Fiberplast since I use that most often.

First of all, I never expected it to be easy butI would have thought it would be more fun in the beginning But I think I just need a short break to gather the resources and money for a factory and then get some extra tailor skills through the factory

Thanks for the bazaar tips, I now kinda do: 'nr of slots - color - item name' or something like it but the name in front is indeed smarter.

Heh. Smocks are a) decent xp and b) look cool

I still make smocks and i got master tailor the other day. They look very nice.

Don't grind ribbed shirts. Fill your inventory with components, make dresses, smocks, skirts, pants, shoes, belts, etc. Sell full wardrobes for discounted prices, and you'll get return customers. Some of the first dancers I sold clothes to still come back to me for clothing.
