Considering this is a one player per account per server game, basically a game that is based on in game reputation and that is everything and if you ruin that then your player is essentially ruined or at least should be then I have a player for you.

That player is named Nixx and at least for today his title was Engineer, but he was practicing novice Tailoring skills. What he was doing was undercutting prices of those who sell in the location he came wandering in to. Now I'm in that same are every day and have been there every day since BETA and I make a good living selling all kinds of things, My prices are not too high and they are not too low as if they were I either would not be able to sell things or would not be able to keep things in stock.

When NIXX came walking in selling his stuff at the undercutting price he was selling at, and PLEASE don't get me wrong here was not selling at a hundred or two lower than the rest of us, he was selling at 850 credits lower than the rest of us were, that's apretty significant amount wouldn't you say? So i talked to him and asked him to please not do that and explained why and NIXX agreed not to do that, then right after our conversation he immediately started selling at the same price again. I asked him what he was doing, he said that was a joke and that he was going to just sell on the Bazaar and not sell them in the open again.

Another lie of course as he continued to sell them at the same price, undercutting our prices by 850 credits, I tried to talk to him some more but when I did all I got was more lies. Next thing you know he's looking to buy hides at over the going rate which everyone normally pays, I asked him not to do that because all he is going to do is drive the prices up, something which all of us in the area have been fighting to bring down since the game started. Basically all I got was him bragging about how many credits he has accumulated and how little he cares about the rest of us and that he is there now and this is the way it's going to be and if we don't like it so what etc etc etc.

Now I know it's a free economy, a player driven economy but for 1 person to come into an area that is already well established and to act like this to me tell me he could care less about the people in the area, the people he services or the other people he may be hurting in the process. He's a fly by night person taking advantage of the situation and will be gone sooner than later.

I say that everyone should boycott NIXX and other people like him and start spreading the word about people like him.

Welcome to competition. Sell at what you want. He'll sell at what he wants. If that's less than you, TOUGH. The idea of a set market price that can never go down is ridicilous.

If he's selling in a public place, like a cantina or next to a shuttleport, he has no right to expect someone else to walk off. If Nixx is selling in his shop, then Nixx is wrong.

To suggest that I can't auction my pack for 250 next to the fountain in Theed because someone else is selling the same thing for 2500 isn't realistic at all.

FYI: My prices account for both resources and time. I get 100%-200% markups on most items. Most tailors seem to think their time is worth a 2,000%-40,000% markup.

I remember Nixx from back in the EQ days. He was always running around outside the gate in the newbie zone attacking people. Real jerk of a Gnoll, but then I never met a Gnoll I liked.

as everyone has said.. its a free market.... he can walk right into where ever he wants (except your store) and sell for less... thats capitalism at its finest....this creates pricing wars.. adds a lil fun to the game i say... as for nixx.. power to ya bud... just dont be rude to your fellow tailors and all will be fine....

Regardless of pricing, a player youcannot trust is a player to be avoided. Simple.

The problem is he wasn't underselling forbusiness he was underselling because it was funny to him and has a very real chance to hurt others. He wasn't looking for new customers, he was looking to use his probably exploited cash to do damage to others. 100% pure greif player right there from this description.

Understood - it certainly isn't a nice thing to do to the other tailors. But to the players it sure is. To you he is a wart on the crafting community, to an impoverished player the guy is practically Robin Hood.

It cant go on forever... he'll have to make more expenisve things. Or you will graduate to more expensive items. This will come out in the wash, as my mother used to say.

But it is also certainly in your power to try to Boycott the guy. My guess is you will lose more customers than you will gain that way, though. No one wants to be told where to spend their money. It isn't like he is exploting small children or puppy dogs.

Yes in a free market economy it is perfectly reasonable and legal to undercut your competition, but there are laws to deal with pricing at below what is profitable in order to drive your competition under. These laws stop powerful companies driving their competitors out of business and then setting up a monopoly. It is difficult to use arguments like this in a game, but then so are arguments based on what is allowed in a free market economy. This thread appears to be more about honesty and courtesy than economics and it appears that this Nixx appears to have little of either.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Not yelling at you, just yelling because I'm happy you guys got it, you got what I was trying to say! I posted this in a couple of other forums because he was a little devious in telling me exactly what his vocation was when I talked to him the first time before I wrote this original post. I knew he was at least a novice tailor because he was making Military travel packs.

But to answer a couple of questions here, yes it was out in the open and not at my shop. Yes i did ask him to stop undercutting the normal prices that we all (the other people who sell in the area) sell at by 850 credits and he DID agree to that, but then continued to sell at his price, when I aksed him again why he was selling at that price he said it was a joke etc you read it before in the first post right?

Anyway a long story short, throughout the day he basically was a pain in my arse sending me tells telling me whenever he would sell a pack etc, and then to top it off he flooded the bazaar with them and made sure he told me about it, at that point I ignored him becuse I then knew for sure he was here to do nothing but be a total pain.

Later in the day, I heard him in an argument with someone else, well i heard one side of it any way <G>. I wrote more about this in the artisan forum because I also posted this there, I'm too tired to write more today, but if you want to read more of what i said you can go there.

Yep - you are asking for price fixing which is illegal in a free market economy. Otherwise known as collusion. You can ask your local arilines about it, they've been sued for this more times that I can count. As has your local gasoline distributior.

Eventually his funds will dry up (or he'll be dumped by his sugar-momma) and the prices will stabilize. That is the beauty of the free market. Luckily in SWG being homeless is fine and your wounds will eventually be healed, so we don't have to worry about the consequences of said free market

Sure, SnowLeeper,NIXX was exercising his right to price his items freely. He wasn't doing anything "wrong" as far as the in-game rules and the terms of service go. But then again, there aren't laws for every type of crime.

From your previous posts, SnowLeeper, I know that you like to sell your items at fire sale prices. You charge only slightly above your resource cost and factor in virtually no compensation for your time. You lovepricing your items far belowthe pricesof your competition.That's fine. And while I may not agree with your pricing policy, it's your perogative.

What I DO have a problem with is when tailors walk into an area where another tailor is clearly doing business, try to undercut them, agree to stop, and continue doing it. I'm not sure if you completely understood Shazbham's post, but if you did and are still supporting NIXX's actions, then I'm afraid we'll just have to agree to disagree.

There should be a certain amount of courtesy among tailors for each other. If you're not willing to show any respect to others in your profession, don't expect to receive any in return.

Like I said before, neitheryou nor NIXX are breaking any rules. But remember that a little courtesy goes a very long way.

I don't believe that Shazbham is asking for everyone to sell at the same prices--only that people be respectful of others. It's a free market and people are free to sell their goods at whatever prices they wish to. It would be unfair to ask people to fix their prices and create a tailoring OPEC, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask other tailors to show some respect for each other.
