This has probably been reported (sorry if it has) but I discovered it recently and it helps a lot when the picker is giving the wrong colours. Rather than clicking around until you find the correct one just hold down the mouse button and move around. The colour will be updated as you move around. Saves a lot of clicks and having to look at two places at the same time...

Also to offset the color match issue, always examine the object you are tryint to match and use the examine window. if its somthing they are wearing, examine them to get an image in the corect light source.
