Thread: Tailor Armorsmith idea for Alichai
had this exact discussion with several friends tonight...
i like this idea
It's a good idea and I wouldn't mind seeing it.
The big problem with it, however, is that people may expect tailors to go through the effort of matching entire sets of armor for free (or close to free).
If the devs wouldn't mind taking it one step further,I'd rather have tailors be given the ability to craft "dye kits" that can be used by customers to color their armor. The kits wouldbe one-time use and give the customer the ability to dye his or her own armor. The selection of colors would be equivalent to the tailoring experimentation skill of the tailor who crafted the kit. This would eliminate a lot of the menial work involved with having a set of armor traded to you, trying to guess or match the colors the customer wants, and having to trade it back to them.
I see dye kits as a win/win/win situation. Tailors will be able to play a part in making armor more visually appealing, armorsmiths won't feel pressured into becoming tailors, and customers will be able to choose the exact look they want.
Color is already tied to Tailoring Tech tree, and almost all Armorsmiths are filling Tech and Field II so they can make their own materials and have the full range of colors. Armorsmiths should be able to either make all their own components and limited color, or color it entirely and need components (like synth cloth and reinforced panels now). Notlimited color and need componentsas it is now.
If I could color everything on my own I wouldn't be wasting SP on Tailor as I want more combat skills so I can have some hunting fun occasionally. Almost every Armorsmith will agree. If I can't make black Composite without Tailor Tech IV, I'm going to get it and use 9 SP to get Field II and totally cut out the Tailor from the process.
I had no problem paying for crates, or even schematics now that I have a factory. The problem is that no one would sell them to me at a reasonable price, and then they dried up completely, so I was forced to make my own. $7500 for a schematic using my factory and my resources is ridiculous. I could see $2500, for synth cloth that's ~25% of the run, and you use no resources and no factory time.
Armorsmiths are bitter (yes I'm a bit pissed myself) that so much is tied into the Tailor tree that it basically forces us to be Tailor/Armorsmith to survive. Would you like it if your clothing colors were tied into Armorsmithing? I doubt it. Would you train those skills just so you could have the full color spectrum? You know you would when you get the first request for a bright red dancer outfit and couldn't make it.
Armor color should be exclusively for the Armorsmith. If you get an armor "paint kit", then there should also be a clothing "paint kit" that I can change the color of myshirts and jacketswith.
Themost practicalthing to do is to make color dependant on the minerals used and eliminate hue altogether. Use a green gemstone and it's green, red gemstone and it's red. Simple and no skill required. Combine gemstones in different amounts to make more colors. That could go to the "Miner" profession if the ever bring it back.
