Everyone is so calm here. The ID forum is usually my main hangout, but it's a very scary place right now. So, I'm going to kick back and chill with the tailors for a while, who are a lot less angry because they didn't just receive a swift kick in the head.

So, can someone explain to me how you maintain a 500+ item vendor and remain sane? My vendor right now has 26 items, and I don't really foresee it going much higher.

Also, there's something that's been bugging me. Is there anyone who has made a record of which coloring boxes affect which part of various necklaces? I keep messing them up because I can't see them. The only one I remember with any regularity is the Elegant Gemstone Necklace, because it's my absolute favorite.

I currently manage a 2000+ item vendor and I'm pretty sane....don't know how I do it though! LoL

As for necklaces, I'm currently in the process of making one of each, choosing 2 very different colours, dropping them in my boutique then examining them. Because they now show up in the examine window I can screenshot them, print out the pictures and have them to hand when I make necklaces in future

I maintain a 4000-5000 ish item set of tailor vendors, and i dont stay sane but nothing wrong with a touch of insanity here and there. (if you want insane i also run a 1000+ item furniture vendor, BE creatures vendor, and a few armour vendors)

But seriously i add my signature/colour into every items name field as i make it, so when its sold i know what item/colour sold, so i know what to re-make and replace on my vendor.

How i started was to keep vendor advertising off, and stay a hermit between visits to the cantina to socialise a bit now and then (Just as a little break).

I went through every item in my clothing tool, and made them all one by one, several times over so each item had a few choices of colours, (more popular ones i did in all colours and a few different shades of each). Once i was stocked up i turned on vendor advertising and let people know where i am. I didnt do custom orders while i was stocking vendor up, and i still dont do that many, because i ask people if the item they want is on my vendors before asking me to make something for them, and 90% of the time it is. Its really only weddings and uniform orders i tend to need to do.

Hey Fuschia, my Twi'lek Tarquinas Tailoring Sister, eer, evil sister (forgot you are emperial, sorry)

I actually tried to do the necklace thing the other night because I got so sick of making 14 necklaces to get the color combo I was looking for. I only did four of them, but here's what I got:

Crested Neckpiece: Color 1- Necklace band

Color 2- Jewel

Elegant Gemstone: Color 1- Jewel

Color 2- Necklace band

Emerald Pendant: Color 1- Necklace band

Color 2- Jewel

Heavey Crystal Symbol: Color 1- Jewel & Back of Necklace band

Color 2- Front of Necklace band and Edge around Jewel

Hope that helps. Using these formulas was able to cut down to making three necklaces in order to have one that looked decent. Still had to experiment with the color shades to see what actually looked good. Didn't write down which ones made the jewel look black in every color if you used the darkest color, i hate that.

Thanks guys! Especially Valina, that helps enormously, as those are some of the necklaces I make the most often. Another one is the silver pendant (mostly for guys) - I cannot figure out which color goes to what, but it doesn't appear to matter, as the cord shows up black no matter what. I colored both the pendant and the cord white last night, and the pendant showed as silver and the cord showed as black. LOL.

I used to have 1200 items all the time... Seeing that only like 400 of them were selling on a regular basis I gave up and I reduced the stock to 600 or so. I also don't want to keep too much stuff I will have to get rid of when they change the vendor max amount of items.

Vendor max limit. /cry Yeah, I've been keeping my stock hovering around 2k in anticipation of that limit. It's coming soon and I really wish they'd tell us what the limits are going to be so we could plan ahead. Only thing they've tentatively promised is that stock currently on the vendors that goes over the limit will not be deleted. But you won't be able to restock again until the stock rolls over or sells to meet the new limit. /sigh Which will mean manually pulling off everything that doesn't sell like hot cakes or you could end up waiting a long time before the stock reduces. And all that variety stuff and mix and match color sets so anyone can easily put together an outfit... gone. Back to doing tons of custom orders for anything not in basic black.

Even with Master merchant, I fear it's going to be rough. The day that patch goes in will be known as Tailor Insanity Day.

Heh, as for keeping sanity? I lost mine last week. Over a little thing, but a last straw thing. I took a week off from tailoring, sent a plea for mercy to mywell-intentioned but a bit too overdemanding guild, and played only my combat char and my MID char. I didn't actually flip my lid over compulsive vendor stocking; I lost it over the deluge of custom orders that people wanted made right now, drop whatever you are doing, you aren't doing anything anyway, right? and oh yeah, deliver it too. /scream

I killed hundreds of beasties, collected tons of POI badges (many places I've never seen on any char and I've been playing since Beta!), annoyed tons of people in Bestine playing with the holoemotes and my rainbow Mohawk (different color every time I ran past the starport), played "Roar! I'm scary!" with a Trandoshan who was in love with his new ridges - I called him Ruffles - tore up two perfectly good non-CH pets and am halfway to Novice Fencer on one char and halfway to Master Marksman on the other...

And bathed in blood and glory, I returned to my crafter char calm, cool and collected. And what did I do my first day back? Restocked the vendor. Heh.

When I moved to TC I decided it was a good time to rethink my business model. I used to keep about 1200 items in stock, and that was just about perfect - the way I knew it was perfect was that I'd direct someone to my vendor, and I'd never hear a peep again. It anticipated all sorts of custom orders.

But the reality of it was that I did the same amount of business with 500 items. The 1200 item vendor was mostly to appease my guildmates who hated to put in custom orders, so I made all sorts of different colors and styles for them, because they had already bought all the staples.

While on TC, I only put up to sell what I knew sold really really well, and eliminated the things like the Loose Dress, which I think is gorgeous, but will sit around for 3 months. So my current business model includes about 300 items, basic colors like black, red, purple, and blue - with the wacky colors thrown in when I feel like it (I'll just run through and make every item in bright purple one week) - side note: just choose the colors you're going to use for all items and stick with them. Purple should always be the same color box as purple. You shouldn't have to think when you color.

I try to avoid duplicative items - like I only stock comfortable slacks, and not dress slacks, because most people think they are interchangeable. I don't stock two-tone formal skirts. I'd have to make them in every color. I prefer the belted skirts or fashionably pleated skirts. I stock those.

And hawtpants. Lots of hawtpants.

Doing the initial vendor stock is pretty easy. Start with shirts. That's the category that really sucks. Make all the bustiers, and decide upon a few normal shirts. I usually make the sidebutton shirt, trim lined shirt, muscle tee, and formfitting undershirt - the rest is all whim. Then make your items. Choose a few colors. If you make a bustier in baby blue though, keep in mind that you're gonna have to make shoes and skirts in baby blue too. You sure you want baby blue? (Hint: make the staple colors first, and then you can always "flesh out" your color selection later).

See, it's not rocket science, just make the barebones minimum to make a few decent outfits, and that should be 300 items there. The reason I picked 300 myself, is of course vendor limits. The initial proposal from TH was 150 items. I don't know what the real number will be, but I think that sticking around 150 items will probably work for me (150x2vendors = 300).

I am not a slacker! I just mastered last Tuesday, for cryin' out loud! \

Anyway, I'm not sure I WANT to have a massively stocked vendor. I'm part of a PRC that has its own mall, which means I technically don't have to have merchant, if I decide to put a vendor up there. I've been considering dropping merchant (all but novice)and getting master artisan so I can make vehicles to supplement my income. All I've done since I mastered is make stuff for my guildies and my friends... some pay me, some don't, I never require it, but it does take a toll on my purse.

On another note, I'm pleased as punch that with the new skin colors for twi'leks, I can wear red now. Ava's worn nothing but red and black the last two days. I never liked it on her before.

Hi, FuschiaD.

What's everyone on the ID forum upset about? I tried skimming through but I've been gone fora few weeks, and the amount of change that's happened is pretty overwhelming.
