Thread: Item Filtering Better but Incomplete...
I'm happy to see they now allow one to click on factory crates (that are in one's inventory) from the crafting screen, rather than the inventory screen, to withdraw an item. But why did they stop there? Here's how it should be:
- All items on your person, including those inside backpacks, should appear in the crafting window if they pass the filter (if they're usable for the item being crafted). Why relieve us of the trouble of opening the inventory window, but still require us to go through the same trouble if our factory crate's in our pack?
- Double-clicking on a crate from within the crafting window should deposit the component directly into the schematic, rather than leaving you with another double-click to do on the component once it comes out. These are the kind of things that cause repetitive stress disorder!
- Factory crates and containers that are not usable in the schematic should not pass the filter or appear in the ingridient window. Seems like a no-brainer.
- Finally, I think that if you're in your own house, and you have usable ingredients or crates dropped there, that those should be available in the crafting ingredient window as well. Why should we have to pick up the crate or component into our inventory when they could just go directly into the schematic? It's a wasted step.
This last one is somewhat debatable, although I think it makes perfect sense. The first three only streamline the ingredient-to-schematic process by removing needless repetitive clicks and window opening. I hope these can get in for the next big patch.

Last time i used the input hopper of my crafting station i could watch my ressources dissappear one after another after about 10 seconds.
Maybe the patch fixed that though....
I don't agree with number 1. I keep resources in my backpack that I don't want to use at that time. Sometimes I'm trying to reduce containers by using up one of them. Other times I'm saving the high quality resources to use another time. Wooly hide goes there so to save for wooly specific schematics. Plus many other reasons. I don't want to leave these items at my house or in the bank in case i need them.
I save crafting time by only having the resources I wish to use appear on my crafting tool. I don't have to read through all the names and scroll trying to find the correct one.
For crafting stations....when you are standing near a crafting station that you own you right click your crafting tool to get the radial menu. There is a box to access the input hopper that opens up from the start crafting tool selection. You can store resources in here. They are included in the number of items in the house. You can then get to these from the second window during crafting where you select the resources. There is a tab for it at the top of the resource selection window. You have to be standing right by the crafting station. I tried it from another room and it said that I couldn't see the hopper even though I was close enough to still get the experiment selection.
I don't know if it is still bugged and eats the resources. I put some in there last time i played and haven't logged back in yet to see if they poofed.
