Are there more than one type of factory? Or is there just one type, and when you install it, you tell it what type of factory you want it to be? Is synthetic cloth and metal fastners considered wearables, or would they be equiptment? Can you change the type of factory after placing it (assuming there is only 1 type of factory)?

You have to buy specific factories, there is one for each type (the following are ones that I know about):

Equipment
Structure
Weapon
Food/Chem
Wearables

Any components used for tailoring would be covered by the wearables factory. Armor is also built in them.
