Thread: necklaces?

I've only had formalwear for a short time, and so haven't really attempted to sell necklaces before. There does seem to be a good amount of demand for them, but since they are invisible in the vendor and in inventory, this is a huge problem as far as sales go.

I stocked a few in my vendor, and what I've seen is that they sell, but I've witnessed in some cases customers buying them "sight unseen" then getting very dissappointed (particularly with the ugly lower level ones) once they get them and then naturally frustrated by the buying experience. I'm wondering what to do about this. Any suggestions? Do others even bother carrying necklaces? Or do these just mainy serve to cheese off customers. Any input would be appreciated.

I only stock 3low end necklaces and they fly off the shelves. They are cheap so have never heard complaints from those that might not like them.

The only mid/hi-end necklace I stock on the vendors is the Immense, altho thinking to stock more well-known ones like the Stately. All others I don't, largely because of the missing icons. Customers are likely more apt to get frustrated with higher priced ones they find they don't like, tho I do take them back upon purchase.

What I do is keep alljewelry on display (except the rings as they get lost on the floor last time i dropped one) and take custom orders, so they get what they see.

I usually keep a stock of Elegant Gemstone Necklaces, Plated Necklaces and "Emerald" Pendants.

In addition I will usually give out the Pendants to people when they buy a whole outfit, then they end up buying more to match whatever outfits they have.
The only complaint about them is the grenish tint which is overpowering in the lighter colors, tends to limit me to Amythest, Ruby, Saphire and Onyx (in addition to the original Emerald).
Since I've started giving a few of them out to my male customers I've noticed a increace in them with some of the fighting professions as well. I guess most of them figured they would look stupid with this gem hanging around there neck instead of a large metal disk.

The Elegant Gemstones are really good with Exotic Leotards (though it works well with any low cut top), sometimes I give them out as well with a local dancers purchase as I'll usually have a few people in shortly asking for the same thing. I also try to keep one of these on display somewhere.

Plated Necklace is harder to use, best with low cut off the shoulder outfits.

Most of the time when I give them out the usually response is either "ok..." or "um, thanks?" till they put it on, then they rave about it (or the men get that cocky "oh yah, I'm cool" vibe)and I know there hooked. While none of them fly off the shelves there is a steady enough demand for them that I do try to keep them in stock (extras of the onyx and ruby pendants as those sell best).

Well, that's actually exactly my concern. How many of those sales are people going "doh! is that what I bought?" and how many of them are sales of people knowingly buying what they want. I ask this because:

1) I never see people actually wearing those low-end ones

2) when I've worked with "live" customers I have generally gotten very negative reactions to them (back in the days where all I could make were the ones you got with the "novice" box.

yet, as you said, they do sell when put on the vendor. Is the reason they sell though precisely because people can't see how ugly they are? Am I the only one a little bothered by this from a sense of guilt that I may be somehow misrepresenting a product that they cannot see what it looks like? I'm considering just not stocking any of these anymore, but am wondering about what policies others have.
