Thread: My first Night & My first Customers
IT ATE MY POST STUPID BOARDS I HATE YOU OMG
anways i had one stupid idtio who had me make 3 outfits and then turns out he had no money. I just decided to give him the one he had on free so he would just GO AWAY and it worked. Then i had a sweet girl whom wound up buying two weddings bands and her bf came and asked her to marry him. She has spent 10k in the shop so when she asked if my gurreck by the wall was for sale i gave it to her as a present. She wants me to make her wedding dress now to.
Then one dude got an outfit that cost lke 2800 (pants and vest) and he tipped me 5k instead which was sweet and he said he would be back. After the idiot left everything was cool and I had fun. Ita the other half of my team hardly for to work at all because of the crows and -Knives- my sugar daddy spent most of the night showing the cool dude customer outfit options so now he is my official tailor.
It was hectic and it was fun. Now i can tell it will get difficult to log at night with so many people, then again maybe tommorow will be calm and no one will come.
I set up my shop really cute and next I am adding a "Exotic Clothing" vendor for all fun girly cloths.

You need to be a little careful perhaps about this, otherwise you might set a pretty bad precident. This happend to me only once, but I took a different tactic. I threw the clothes in the vendor (full priced, I generally give people ordering multiple items a discount but not that guy) and told him to come back when he could afford them. I took off and did some things, and less than an hour later I got email spam that he had bought it all from the vendor. Of course his days of getting custom orders from me are long gone now, lol.
Bah i don't care, but your advice is well taken and I'll try to think of other ways for myself. I like to learn the hard way.
I remember his name. I will never ever do anything custom for him ever again. No orders. nothing. For one things he's to picky.
I don't mind about the free things I got a great deal many free things from people in this game so I like to return the favor. Diglee a real sweety who just joined Eternity i think was there in town my very first day and gave me a free outfit or two. Was one of the sweetest things anyone ever did for me. He didn't even know me. So I like to do those nice things. Like giving that girl the gurreck. I had gotten it free anways or fairlly cheap from our PA vendor i think. It was no loss to me and she will probably return. One master tailor i visted once whom i spent a lot of money at gave me a free medium mineral harvestor.
It's fun to be nice to people who deserve it.
I have to agree with ArthurDent on this one - NEVER give stuff for free to a pain in the butt. He will always expect more!
If it's a weird or oddly-colored item, NEVER do more than one redo. You won't be able to sell it, and nobody deserves more than one redo. If he's still not happy after you tweak the color once, he won't be happy the third or fourth time you do it.
Put the items on the vendor. If he doesn't pick it up, and it doesn't sell, destroy it. Now you may think it's better to give clothes away rather than destroy them - it's not! Word will spread and it will give incentive for people to change their minds in the middle of orders and not pay for the "rejected items", to come to your shop intending to stiff you, and to just expect free clothing under the theory that it won't sell.
I'm not talking about the paying customers, and throwing in a freebie. I'm talking about "customers" who feel entitled to free items, or multiple redos due to indecision on their part.

bleh lol i just read my post i can't type, i was so mad it ate my good post, but if any of that up there makes sence your a genious. I ment knives is my model (not tailor haha!) and ITA isthe BE.
Well i just have to do what i feel comfortable doing. I dont want to give the idiots something no, but at that moment it worked to make me A) not frustrated and B) get rid of him.
Yes good point about after a 2nd color try don't try again thats one I will do.
Oh and as for what happend now I am not as irate and can explain it.
He asked for re-enforced pants in blue and gray, then he wanted the blue darker, then he wanted me to swap the colors, ya know reverse it. When i did this.. he then asked me why i did that, i said because that's what you asked for and he repears himself and goes, yeah blue were it was gray and gray were is was blue. I said yah thats what I did. His reponce was "........."
I wanted to smack him. Turned out he had 1k on him. What idiot goes to a tailors hows and has a cutom made outfit and thinks its gonna cost under 1k. The pants alone cost more then that. He had played a BH before so this was his second character. He should have known better. It was a lesson learned for me. I am beggning to be able to tell who is an idiot. He started out scetchy anways he would not tell me how he got my name. Maybe it was someone from here or the boards trying to screw with me. I didnt get mad so it didnt work
Just made me learn how better to read people cause it was obvious he was freaky from the beggning but because he was my FIRST customer in my shop i figured, whatever.. it's a game man I dont care.
I have to agree. Need to be careful, word of mouth can be a good thing, but it can also come around to bitethe sellerifcustomer expectations aren't managed in the right way.
My policy does not let anyone try outfits on unless they pay for it first. If they do not like it, I may trade or refund, depending on the circumstances. In my experience, dropping them in the shop for them to see is sufficient for 99% of the customers.
I very often throw in freebies or hugely discounted items, that is a great tactic. But am careful with those coming in that seem to expect such benefits.
Wow, you are tough! lol. I actually have an "ultimate liberal" policy when it comes to that sort of thing, and I'm hoping I don't have to change that. I guess I've never been burned and generally it's been to my advantage to do so. When someone asks for something, I never bring price up unless they ask (I assume price is no object, which is 9 times out of 10 isthe case), hand it to them to try it on (sometimes they are reluctant and need some prodding, lol), and then ask what else I can get them. Usually a customer will have on 2 or 3 items before we even discuss price.
As I mentioned, I also assume that what they asked for is likely to not be exactly what they end up with, and allow a "redo" or two so long as they are polite about it. Often times when they ask for something non-specific (dark colored pants) I'll make 2 or 3 types and hand that to them all at once. As long as it's not something too bizarre, I know I'll be able to sell it in the vendor anyway. Also very frequently the response from the customer is "I'll take them all" when given a couple of attractive choices that meet their criteria. Tips are usually very high, I get a lot of repeat business, and my prices are quite high, allowing me to offer this type of thing. But yea, I do end up using the "destroy" button on things from time to time, and there certainly is the possibility of someone just running off without paying (although it's never happened).

yeah I agree I like to see them try it on. I don't want them walking out of my store looking awful. My fav thing is to make them a sharp outfit myself and normally they like it
Not that I have much experience but so far so good.
Wow, that certainly is a liberal policy!
Well, I haven't been burned yet, and Ifollow that to avoid it (think it was after reading about others getting burned on these forumsthat I started with this). And the reason largelyisI need to be wary and preventivedue tocircumstances, losing money isn't really an issue anymore.
It works for fine for me. Inthree months, I've had one person ask to try something on, and two or three others hand items back. Sothe majority ofpeople are happy with dropping it and seeing the whole outfit together that way. However, for regular customers, policies arerelaxed, and Ipretty muchgive out anything under 2k for free to them. It's all about trust.
But then again, I'm mostly hiding in my crafting house restocking my vendors, so I don't have much time for custom orders. Maybe I just don't see as many of those "I want to try it on" customers.
Oh, and that first line there wasn't sarcastic, it kind of sounds like it now that I look back at it. ![]()
I was really cringing about giving all those items out when reading thru. Most people wouldn't do anything but there are those few. But bottom line, you play around and do what works best for you and the region that you do business in.
I let people try on stuff all the time, haven't gotten burned yet. People do tend to be surprised when I hand them stuff to try on, so maybe I'm the only one doing this!
I remake stuff within reason - but for the more expensive items I will make something like a soft undershirt for a color sample. Or try to get them to pick out something on display that is the correct color. If it's some color combination I know won't sell, I make double & triple sure that is what they REALLY want before I make it.

clothing is not a weapon. They dont need to "try a weapon on" lol.
Armor is something that annoys me i buy it for looks and would atleast like to see an armorsmith put them on the floor to show. Very few do that.
I know as a customer trying it on made a big difference so I am fine with it.
If i have a problem with lots of people stealing I will have to re-think my policey but if you pay attention you can tell who the idiots are. Just play smart.
Have never had a single problem with theft, and always figured even if I did every once in a blue moon, it wouldn't be that big a deal, really.
