I have started my own little shop being a 4-1-0-0 Architect and a 0-0-0-0 Tailor. Architect is pretty easy to grind, but what about tailor? I have read the guide stickied at the top but it seems to take soo long knocking out ribbed shirts. I am not dabbling and hope to be a master tailor at some point. I have tried going the slow way but that seems wayyyyy slow and i want to get crafting the good stuffs!
Are ribbed shirts and cartridge belts the only way?

No, but there the easiest way.
The other way that I've heard is to grind cloaks... But that's a waste of hides in my opinion.
So, you want to get a macro for grinding (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=tailor&message.id=19994), and then you want to set it up to grind Ribbed Shirts, then click till you get carpal tunnel. Then you take a 15 min break and start again. Soon you'll get Cartrage Belts, which require more clicking. Then you grind everything else.
One word of advice, don't leave the Tech tree till last, you'll have no motivation and it's easier to sell stuff (if you want to make money during the grind) if it has sockets and good colors.

Well, I think architect is about the only artisan class than can look at tailor as being a "slow" grind, most others take much longer than tailor. And it's been well documented in the FAQ and in other threads how a dedicated person can achieve the title of master tailor in as little as 2 days, so I fail to see how that is slow.
As far as wanting to grind to master instantly because you want to craft "good stuffs" I think that is the really common misconception. My own opinion is that if you don't like being a tailor as a novice, you won't like it any better as a master.
It's funny, I recently created a new toon on another server. I thought up this big combat template for him, and started off in the process of building skill and making money to aquire the things that I needed. But now I just can't help it. I look around that server (not saying which one) and notice the appalling lack of anyone resembling a tailor and now I find myself climing back up the old artisan tree again. I figure one box of fieldwear, one box of formalwear and I'll easily be able to earn enough on the bazar to fund all my other endevors and needs. It's really amazing looking back just how many of the top selling items are at the very bottom of the tree.

Do you mean cartridge belts? That would be a lot of clasps do grind four boxes with grenadier belts!

Grenadier, not Demolitionist's—still not ideal, but doesn't require clasps or warheads.

Oops. You can tell where the holes are in my tailor knowledge. I don't make belts because they all hoola-hoop so badly and I only make 2 or 3 types of necklaces because of the camera bug.
I still don't know which ones are which.

Thanks for the replies folks. Something i didn't think of... I will start making clothes to sell on the bazaar. Atleast i can get a little return on my efforts.
As for this being one of the easier professions to grind i will go ahead and believe you considering all i have really tried is architect and tailor.
I am a casual player (down to a few nights a week now) and cant spend the time to grind non-stop... but i will get it done eventually.

If it makes you feel any better, I only know the grenadier's because a good friend wore one nonstop my first 2 months in game—got very used to seeing it. As for making belts/necklaces, I've made maybe a half dozen of each since finishing up the floor models for my shop. They just don't fit right and they're a pain to make (necklaces) so I don't generally bother.

The bad thing is you can't make ribbed shirts until you're a novice tailor. So I found that travel packs are the best thing to use to get the xp for that. Yes, they are expensive resource-wise (50 fiberplast, 10 polymer 5 hide and 5 metal) but they are good xp. Try those until you can get to where you can make those shirts.

It depends on your skill. According to the guide that is stickied at the top of this forum ribbed shirts are the most efficient thing to make until you can make cartridge belts.
