Thread: So I have to be a Master Artisan in order to tailor on my own?!

I'm heading for Tailor and therefor only went up the Domestic Arts tier (since this is the prereq for Novice Tailor).

Today however I was told that I won't be able to craft advanced clothing on my own if I don't master the Artisan profession first, because I won't be able to create the components I'll need for certain clothing. Furthermore, I wouldn't be able to color my clothes.

Is that true? What else will be in disadvantage if I do not master the whole Artisan profession?

Disclaimer:
I'm an explorer /fighter type, so I don't EXPECT to be as good in tailoring as pure crafters, but I think I should at least be able do craft something on my own. At least the very basic things. I only want to go up the Field Wear tier in Tailor so I can craft backpacks, scout jackets, belts, foot wear, etc...

You Only NEED Domestic Arts to from Artisan in order to make anything for Tailoring. I would recommend Surveying for obvious reasons, and maybe Engineering to make your own personal harvesters. That aside, you could just use Domestic Arts, Master Tailor, and very likely Master 2 otherprofessions such as Marksman and Scout.

If you want to have a shop, the merchant line is key too.

I accidentally went Master Artisan in the course of my tailoring.

Heh, that is what some people refer to as a load of <insert appropriate critter here> manure. Biz for vendors yes, but I have now surrendered not only my survey line, but also my engineering line..

Other folks have already answered you, but I'm going to add my own two credits!

No, you do not need anything from the artisan line except for domestic arts in order to create anything in the tailoring line all the way through master.

Merchant is required if you want to set up a shop and sell things on your own vendor. This becomes pretty much necessary after you hit3rd to 4th level in one of the tailoring lines, since you can't sell anything over 3000 on the bazaar, and you have a limited number of items you can put on the bazaar.

You do have to have master artisan to craft some of the components the architects need, but that's got nothing to do with tailoring.

Hope that puts your mind at rest!

Technically, you don't even need Merchant to set up your own vendor. I believe you can set up a vendor at Business III.

That said, you probably *should* go with Merchant, both because of the extras you can get, and the "got all this Merchant XP, might as well do something with it" factor....
