Thread: What building to use for a showroom? (Lighting issues)

Hey,

I'm trying hard to make a living as a tailor on Naboo (on Radiant, which is down now, as so often). The native Naboo houses (at least those that I' ve seen) are all red and dark inside - not a good place to display anything but black clothes.

The generic house has walls in a nice, neutral white - but as soon as you place any outfits there, you'll find the light is all messed up, it seems to be glued to the walls. Without personal lamp turned on, all the outfits are dark grey or black. When you turn the personal lamp on (CTRL+L), the colors are all washed out and the reflection of the white wall is much too bright.

Is this a feature of all small houses? Are there planets where the native houses can actually be used as show rooms? I'm prepared to move if it allows me to continue working on the path I've chosen - and as I'm trying to be a fashion tailor (dusters? packs? nope, just Casual Wear), displaying whole outfits even when offline is essential.

(Yes, a working mail system and custo^Wbuddy list sure would help, too, but I'm trying as hard as I can not to think about that...)

After being inside a medium tatooine house, I'll make that one as showroom. Though it got a kinda dark atmosphere.

I like the medium Tat house the most. I like the set up and everything but...... It can get so dark in there and right now the only way to light it is to use torches which give the clothes a different color. =/

Torches guys, torches! I know there's that smoke spewing in your house but it really makes for a beautiful showroom. If you want to see my example, make a guy on Radiant and 20seconds north of Bestine and you're there.

too bad those lamps never work

Take 5 min and come check it out.

I got a Large Tatooine house, and am already having problems with it. I think the item limit number is screwy...I was able to have 69 items in my SMALL Tatooine house, and now in the Large I have 68 and tried to drop some resources while I was moving and it says this house has too many items in it. I got the large for more display and inventory room. This number just can't be right...

I like the medium naboo house as it has a circular "living room"

I use a medium Naboo house.... the round entry room makes a great show room.... if only there was light.

I have track lighting on the walls by design... if you look you'll see em... but my house is dark as a cave, making my yellow look beige, my black look brown... on the other hand, if you quint a little, my magenta appears red *grin*.. might be the only way I get red ...

I have torches in the house, but that changes the color more... and billowing smoke can't be good for my fine fabrics.

Devs, please give us LIGHTED homes. The house design shows them, please make them work. If I have to put power in my home, i'll do it !! (Hopes she remembers to pay her electric bill if that ever happens)

In my small Corellian house, I have the opposite problem - too much light! And it falls in some strange fashion (like maybe it's shining directly downward on every object?) that makes everything look really dark, and hard to see any detail without CTRL-L (and *that* makes it far too bright....)

Too much light is the same issue as with the generic small.

In the vague hope that somebody on the dev squad is reading this... while all the coders are working on stability issues, it's the perfect time for the art team to tackle issues like house lighting and clothing clipping body parts and other clothing.

I have a beautiful medium house on Naboo, but the biggest problem is that CTRL - L does NOT light up YOU. So when I try on clothes, or other try on clothes, we have to run outside to see the real color.

Torches light up the room yes, but they do not light up people. Lamps don't work.

I find that in the basement room of my house CTRL-L does work, so I've made my work room down there, and that helps some.

But CTRL-L doesn't work at all in my circular front showroom.

You can advise your customers to select you and /examine then make that window bigger. You get better details, more neutral lighting there as well.

To select yourself use Ctrl-1 then /ex or they can select you by choosing Examine off the Radial Menu.

My architect, Amig, recommended the Small Generic Planet House style 2, and so far I've been happy with it: main vendor in the entry room, a small anteroom that I'm going to sublet to another vendor, anda large showroom.

But yeah, lighting issues are making me tear my hair out, too. I have two torches going in the showroom, and they do light the clothes. But it's a very orange light, and it throws off all the colors. For the love of all that's holy, somebody tell me that at some level of the Architect's "Furniture" line there is a floor lamp that actually gives off white light?

There is a free standing lamp....... it gives off no light though. =/
