Drogan (Guild Leader of BHG wearing a full BH set of armor): Hey, can you make me a flightsuit?

Me: Ok, which one do you have in mind?

Drogan: Im not too sure, I need a black and blue flightsuit.

Me: (suggest) Is it a Trader or Transport Flightsuit?

Drogan: I think it’s a Trader Flightsuit…

Me: (whips out my droid and starts craft one) I cant have it in the color combo that you want, its either main black and front white/grey or main blue and front black. (open trade window to trade)

Drogan: It’s not the one I wanted, how bout if u make the Transport Flightsuit, I will pay you for both.

Me: Ok.. (starts to make another suit)

3 mins later

Me: (trades with Drogan)

Drogan: Its not the one im looking for again.

Me: (starting to get a little impatient) Could you go to this clothing site and tell me the exact flightsuit that you are looking for?

5 mins later

Drogan: Ok I got it right this time, it’s the Heavy Flightsuit that im looking for.

Me: Ok…(starts to make the 3rd flightsuit and trade with him again)

Drogan: Its not this one either…….

Me: Hey, could you find out which is the exact name of the suit and get back to me? This will make it easier for both of us.

5 mins later

This is where the funny part begins….

Me: (Received a 3k back tip) Hey, you just bank tip me “3k for 3 flightsuits”, sorry its 10k each.

Drogan: WHAT???? This is not even bio clothes and you are asking me to pay 30k for all. Its not even what I wanted.

Me: Hey, Ive used up a lot of clothes for all 3 suits. Its not my fault that I got all 3 wrong. I even offered you an online site to refer

Drogan: No way, Im going to pay 30k for all 3 of them, I just checked with 3 friends and they said its around 1k each. This is highway robbery man.

Me: (starting to get very pissed) Hey, you are the one who came to me and requested for a flightsuit. You did not ask me for a price quote so how would I know that you have a budget in the first place????

Drogan: You got it all wrong man…here, take all 3 suits back and keep the 3k for your trouble

Me: So what the #$%& do you want me to do with this 3 suits now. These are made to custom orders.

Drogan: (acts innocent) You are unreasonable…

Me: ME UNREASONABLE????? Here, take back your 3k, I don’t need your money (tipped back the 3k)

Me: Next time, why don’t you walk up to an Armorsmith and order 3 sets and after he makes them, tell him you do not want it becos they are the wrong ones. He will ask you to go #%%^ yourself…

Me: You wasted my freaking time and completely ruin my day….

The rest is up to your imagination…….

I love being a tailor! I love doing special orders! But I agree that I ran across similar problems when i first made master. I have a system I use to cut down on the negative experiences. I put it into effect after one night spending about an hour with a schmuck who couldn't decide what tint of grey he wanted for his precious imperial uniform and ended up with an array of ugly grey slacks and dress shirts!

This is how I now go about custom requests:

Customer: Hi there, can you make me ???????? (whatever) in green and gold?

Me: Sure, a ???????? will cost 10K (or whatever) with the first 10% upfront as a non-refundable crafting fee. If you do not like the color I will remake the product but you will be charged another non-refundable 10% each time I craft the product. If you want to verify what you are getting and what color go to (website)

Cust: np go ahead

(color conversation happens here)

Me: OK a ??????? in Green and Gold for 10K.

Cust: OK do it.

Me: Please tip the NONREFUNDABLE crafting fee now.

You see I think we should be upfront with our pricing from the get go. The customer may not be thinking about or(more likely) have vastly underestimated the cost. It is OUR responsibility to get the cost issue out of the way in the opening phases of the transaction - not the customer's.

Also I think if we all began to charge a non-refundable crafting fee it would motivate the customer to be better researched before making their request. Our time is valuable and should not be taken for granted or given away.

yeah a lot of people underestimate the price, and if its anything 10k or above, i make sure to tell them. i dont want to be left with their item after finding out they dont have enough to pay.

This is why I always tell the customer my price before I make anything... whether it be a 1K item or a 10K item. I know how you feel, Sunchop. I guess every tailor goes through this, so you are not alone, (just like the "hey.. can you make me a cool outfit?" thing )

While some customers can be a pain, and nearly impossible to satisfy, its good to once in a while run into the opposite kind. Yesterday I got an order for some stuff, didn't turn out the way she wanted them so I remade, no problem. But it took a long time, and english was probably not her native language (and neither is it mine) so we had quite a few misunderstandings along the way. When it was finally done, I name the price and she says "You must be kidding!" I just drew a deep sigh there at my desk, and prepared to argue for my price and my effort. Guess my reaction when she a few seconds later tipped me 5 times my price and happily ran off with her new stuff!

That made my day. That, and the order for 10 identical sets of full clothing I had earlier in the day
