Thread: Tailoring idea that I think would help everyone out
I propose the following: post-crafting dying. Here's how I think it should work:
- Only available to "Novice Tailor" and above, not to basic artisans
No thanks, it's already a PITA enough to get up DomArts without touching Eng, so don't even get the idea to screw it up even more!

Wait, you're saying that it takes too long to get up to novice tailor, so this skill should be granted earlier? Sorry, I can't agree with that. Some skills, such as customizing both colors on two-color items, and (if implemented) recoloring clothing, should only be granted to peope who want to specialize in tailoring, not just anyone that climbs up the Domestic Arts branch to become a Master Artisan.
I have ONLY DomArts! Why? Because I don't want to waste GCXP on stuff I don't want. Thus I won't let someone takemy currentbasic customization possibilities away.

I'm not sure what you're saying here - I'm not suggesting taking anything away, just adding another option once people make Novice Tailor.
I don't like this idea, there is already 6 stupid screens a person has to click through to create 1 object.
And your idea is already in the game, the color picking section.
I'm not suggesting adding another step to crafting, this is a suggestion for something we can do to an already-crafted item.

I'm nota really big fan of this idea either. Perhaps I am reading too fast, but I thinkone result of this could be that we would all sell fewer items, because rather than being required to buy that new Blue Councilman's Robe they could just have someone change the color.
Once upon a time in another MMORPG, which shall remain nameless, there were armor smiths who, with a great deal of effort collecting rare materials, could dye armor that was already complete. People could bring their plain, boring colored armor to these smiths and receive it back with a brand new color wash of red, black, blue, etc.. The demand for this customized armor used to be decent even after better armors were added to the game, because those custom colors were special (the only way for certain folks to have certain colors that would normally be available to only one group, or not available otherwise). Then said MMORPG added newbie armor with a much broader range of colors, other special crafted armors with nicer colors, and lastly the ability for every Wood Elf (oops I gave it away) to dye his or her armor by merely purchasing a vial of dye. No one ever buys the custom dyed armors anymore to my knowledge as there is no reason to do so. Granted making those custom dyes was ridiculously difficult, and so they were not that common, but you see my point?
Even as I go back and see that you have added this item decay feature I think this will absolutely not work. Why would anyone bother to have someone change their item when it would damage the item? They would save time and credits by merely purchasing a new item as they would have to replace the decaying item anyway.
Ipack Ackawaien, Novice Tailor
If folks want different colors, they should buy the outfit in different colors. When I was an entertainer, I had the same basic outfit in 3 different colors to fit my mood. I certainly wouldn't have bothered if I could just get a dye job from time to time and only had to get a new outfit when my recolored one was worn out. Item decay can be fixed by repair kits as well, so even though someone's favorite outfit was decaying, they could just repair it and have it dyed again. So the outfit would take even longer to wear out than 2 or 3 dye treatments.
We'd be making less money (since we're dying an already created item) and less XP for the same amount of time it takes to create a new item. Sure it would take less resources, but we all have adequate resources to make new clothing or else we wouldn't continue on in Tailoring.
If someone wanted a different color than the shade I'd already made for them, I just make a new item, get the additional XP, and sell the unwanted item on the bazaar at a small discount. I already have a "no obligation" policy aboutitems I make for my customers, if something comes out a different color or style than they're expecting I keep crafting for them until they're satisfied.
The only thing we really need to fix the "which color do I use to match" issue is to have tooltips that pop up when you mouse over a color that gives the color's hex code or RGB values. And then examining the finished item should also show you which colors were used on it.
Although this is a definateimprovement over some of the variations of "clothing dying" I heard in beta... most of the folks that wanted clothing and armor dye back then wanted to give the ability to do it to either image designers or novice artisans! ![]()
Just came up with an idea that should please both tailors and those that buy from them.
As I see it, the main complaints from tailors seem to be:
- No clothing decay = little repeat business
- Trial-and-error color matching due to colors being applied differently on different objects, and peoplenot always being able to describe what colors they want ("Which 'medium blue'?")
- Long boring grind (mostly because of point 1 above)
I propose the following: post-crafting dying. Here's how I think it should work:
- Only available to "Novice Tailor" and above, not to basic artisans
- An image-design-like interface for clothing, ideally for clothing someone in your group is wearing already (to prevent scamming) - if there's a lack of room on the radial menu, it could be added to the "Image Design" option (really, the goal of both is the same, to make a character look how they want themselves to look).
- Only works on player-crafted items
- Perhaps requires a few resources (maybea fewinert petrochems for clothing and some metals or gems for jewelry)
- Grants at leastsome experience, if resources are used at least 2 XP per unit though preferably more
- Causes item decay, and lots of it- say,400 taken off for items made by another tailor, 300 for items made by the tailor doing the change, and 600 for items the person doing the change doesn't know how to make
The last point especially is important - otherwise, people would just keep re-dying what they already have and not buy new outfits. The differences in decay rates help out with repeat business for dedicated tailors, but still make it possible to change colorsif the original creator isn't around. It also makes it possible to fix things up if the crafter and the buyer have trouble describing colors to each other.
Anotherbonus is that tailors can benifit more from each other - it would be viable for a tailor to climb up clothing customization first, letting others craft the clothes, and then coming to them to get the exact color scheme they want.
