What is the best item to grind to get to novice tailor? I am making socketed soft undershirts that give 90xp per, is their anything better?

Once you reach Domestic Arts IV, go for Travel Packs if you have the hide. At about 140xp a pop, you'll be leveling faster AND making something very useful and in demand.

10 Polymer
5 Hides
5 Metal

cool deal, what should i sell them for?

Depends on what your economy looks like and how many other people are doing the same thing. When I started, I could sell them for 500, now it has to be lower.

if you just want XP and don't care about selling, make armor/clothing crafting tools in pratice mode. This is how I got my gcxp up.

I also ground out Travel Packs. I then gave them away renamed Bluesummers Promo Travel pack and put other crap I made inside of them. Good marketing for later in your career.After novice tho I've got just 2 words for you... RIBBED SHIRTS.
